In defense of the people of Texas, no one here is in favor of these changes. No one. The people on the board of education that pushed them have either already lost their primary elections or are retiring this year. Yet they are setting the standards for the next decade before they leave office.

Texas doesn't elect these board members. They are appointed by the governor. We can only change them if they lose their state senate or state legislature elections.

Before you all generalize this entire state, and thereby committing the same offenses as this stupid board of education, just know that no one down here supports these changes, yet we are powerless to stop them. Even voting out the people responsible doesn't help.

Some of you people are just as guilty by generalizing. That's like someone saying they wished all Americans would disappear just because you don't like Bush or Obama.

This is a sensative subject to me as I was a history major in college and I actually fear what my kids are being taught in school, knowing they will have to forget everything once they get into college.
Sorry for generalizing! I should know better.
Do you have any links about the outrage? I'm interested to see what people are saying or doing... I know I would be outraged!

I just don't understand how this can be allowed to happen!
I'd throw tomatoes at all 9 board members who voted in favour. Booo!!

No, I'll have to find some. I am mainly just going off news stories, discussions with family and friends, online newspaper articles about it along with the blizzard of comments on each story about it.

It happened because these two wackos from ultra-conservative districts got appointed to the school board by Perry. But even after losing their primary elections in March, still serve on the board.

It's just so stupid. We really don't have anyone to blame but ourselves I guess. I mean, most people didn't even know about this issue until the vote came up last week. By then, too late to do anything about it. At least the yahoos that authored the changes are on their way out the door. The board can reconvene next year and overturn them.

On the secession issue, Rick Perry is a douche bag who was playing up to the teabaggers down here. Texas doesn't have the right to secede any more than any other state does. There is popular myth that part of the terms for Texas being re-admitted into the Union after the Civil War included a clause granting Texas the right to secede if just cause was found. There is no provision in the Texas Constitution reserving the right to secede either.

By the way, secession only supported by the extreme right.
