I don't understand how they're managing to get all these great artists.

I mean, it's cool that we're going to be able to hear some new tracks from these guys, but it's just odd to me.

That's what I was thinking. Can't stand that Muse seems to be the official Twilight artist. But oh well, more people hearing Muse is a good thing.

its what i have been talking about for years. with filesharing, the main revenue stream for bands is dried up. you just aint gonna make money promoting physical cd's. So, bands liscence their work to tv shows and commercials. Grizzly bear has that volkswagen commercial, Black Keys on that Heinekin commercial, Of Montreal on that Outback Steakhouse commercial.

Ultimately, bands who choose not to utilize tv and commercials right now is seriously delusional. Alex Patsavas, the music supervisor for Twilight, The OC, Chuck, Greys, is as much responsible for the rise of indie rock in the last 10 years as Pitchfork is.

Liscencing is the new promotional tool, and any band that has a high profile spot on a tv show or commercial is going to be a hit.

I'll never forget hearing a MARK LANEGAN song on The OC in 2004. Pastavas and The OC in general played a big part in getting a lot of indie bands out into the mainstream.

I definitely agree that money plays a big part in all of these bands doing to Twilight soundtrack. Since they can't make money off of actual albums anymore touring and licensing deals are the only way for a lot of bands to make money.

other way around i'm afraid... from what i heard all the artist were clamoring to get on the soundtrack...

they know it'll sell like crazy no matter what... and you get your music out to a whole new young fanbase... even if those new fans have no real taste to speak of :?
