Steve King: Gays Wouldn't Face Discrimination If They Didn't 'Wear Their Sexuality On Their Sleeve'

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) says he has a simple solution to stop employment discrimination against gay people, and it sounds a lot like "don't ask, don't tell."

During a discussion Tuesday with the Family Research Council's Tony Perkins on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), legislation designed to prohibit workplace discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity, King called the bill a "violation of the individual rights of employers to, at their own discretion, decide who they want to hire, who they want to fire."

King relayed an anecdote that outlined his solution for the problem of workplace discrimination:

And [State Sen. Jerry Behn] said, "let me ask you a question. Am I heterosexual or am I homosexual?" And they looked him up and down, actually they should have known, but they said, "We don't know." And he said, "Exactly, my point. If you don't project it, if you don't advertise it, how would anyone know to discriminate against you?" And that's at the basis of this. So if people wear their sexuality on their sleeve and then they want to bring litigation against someone that they would point their finger at and say, "You discriminate."

The legislation, King said, would serve as "entrapment that is legalized by the ENDA act," which would unfairly impact conservative businesses and organizations.

King laid out a potential scenario to back up his theory:

"I can imagine someone coming in and interviewing one day in man's clothes and come back the next day and apply for a job in woman's clothes and then setting up a lawsuit in a sting operation that could harass especially our religious organizations, but anybody, anybody that's operating in a responsible fashion."

Unfuckingbelievable. (Is there an emoticon of someone shaking their head in disbelief and disdain?)

Maybe I should just cut my hair, bind my breasts, wear pants, and act like a man if I don't want to be discriminated against based on my gender. Maybe all those black folks in the Civil Rights Movement should have just lightened their skin. Then they wouldn't have had so many problems.

And does he actually think people will be dressing in drag and setting up sting operations??

This is just another example of the discrimination that seems to me to be getting worse in this society. :(

    oh, right, right....silly me

flipping around the other night fox was going on about the sanctity of marriage and normally i watch fox more than any other network because it's so damned amusing (like if you think of glenn beck as a fake news show and just comedy it's pretty entertaining) but i couldn't bear hearing them prattle on about it for very long.

i thought marriage was about the love and bond between 2 people?

When any straight person can name a specific moment in their early life development when they decided they would like one sex inherently over the other by mere choice, I will gladly concede to the notion that homosexuality is somehow wrong on any level any more than heterosexuality.
    CONservative governMENt

Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law-breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. - Louis Brandeis

you didn't sit down as a teenager with a pros & cons chart about liking either sex? oh... me neither...

I'm sincerely sorry for the homosexual community for constantly having to put up with endless ignorance. Leave it to a major ass-hat to be a policitian. :|

Unless he really IS straight, in which case you should start checking his pockets for plane tickets to Argentina.
And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.

I am really so tired of this topic. If 2 men or 2 women holding hands, holding each other, kissing bothers you so much, then STOP FUCKING LOOKING!!!!!!! It is very simple, you just turn your head the other way. I am so tired of these hardline religious morons, who don't know the 1st thing about their religion (speaking mainly of Christianity), telling other people how to live their lives. If God condemns homosexuality, then why do they exist? Oh, I forget, free will. They choose to be gay. Yeah, and Jesus rose from the dead. It is 2010 people, GET OVER IT!!!!! So "God" is cool with the Crusades, the killing of countless people, but he doesn't like people showing their love and respect for another. What kind of "God" is that? I tend to think if he does exist that he would want us to behave morally. Sorry, I get angry over this subject. We have serious issues to deal with, much more serious than people of the same sex being in love.
