Advice for a PJ virgin
I'm planning an east coast trip to see the two shows in hartford and in mansfield. Does anyone have any advice as to what to do about lodging? Would camping be a good idea? This would be my first Pearl Jam Concert experience, so ANY advice would be greatly appreciated. Also I've never been to this part of the country before. Does anyone have any suggestions about sightseeing and whatnot?

I'm guessing there would be no places to camp anywhere near Boston, but I could be wrong.
I was thinking the same thing.
First of all, will you have a car?
And are you looking to stay at one hotel the whole time or would you stay at one in Hartford and then one near Boston? The cities are about 1hr 30min apart so if it is much cheaper, it might make sense to just stay in hotel somewhere in between. About 25-30 min north of Hartford is the Basketball Hall of Fame, I've never been but it might be something to check out. Since you are from IA, I would try to head to the beach. There are quite a few that are within 2hours or Hartford.
Boston is much nicer than Hartford and has much more to do. Driving is a pain in the city so it would probably be easier to walk or take the subway. You could easily waste a few days in Boston checking out the Science Museum, Aquarium, and various historical sites. If you like baseball, you should definitely take a tour of Fenway Park. North of Boston is Salem, they have a whole bunch of tours and museums about the Witch Trials. From Boston, you could take the ferry to Cape Cod, I believe it is about a 2 hour ride. If you don't mind taking a ride, you could also drive down to Rhode Island and check out Providence or Newport.
I'm sure some locals will be able to give you better advice but I would definitely plan on spending most of the time in or around Boston.
