Noblesville...what was going on outside the venue?

We arrived in Noblesville ~5:30, hit the pre-party for a few minutes, & picked up our tix ~6:00. We were in our seats ~7:20, and heard there were "thousands" of people lined up at the ticket window at 9:00. What was going on outside the gates?

Gotta say it was a classy move for Pearl Jam to wait out the storm and let people get inside before starting the show. Equally cool for Ed to thank everyone for being patient, & telling the crowd he and the band were concerned about our safety.

I heard very little grumbling inside the venue, but wondered what the story was outside.

Helluva show, as usual. Thanks to Pearl Jam and their crew for yet another epic night. Release?! Holy shit!!!

they shut everything down. told everyone to go back to their car because of the impending thunderstorm and tornado potential

this all happened around 7ish. when they reopened the ticket window and started letting people back in, everybody had shown up to get 10c tickets and will call tickets. cluster fuck ensued.

we completly missed the opening act because of this.

There was no pre-set opener, so you didn't miss any cool Ed solos. Band of Horses was good, but I thought they sounded better the previous night in Columbus.

It looked like everyone was pretty much in the venue when Release started, so hopefully you didn't miss any of Pearl Jam's set.

I gotta say it. I normally don't complain but cluster fuck sums it up. It took us 2 1/2 hours to drive ten miles to get in to the venue. However, we still made it on time if not for that cluster fuck at the Ten Club window. After waiting 45 minutes in this line, and this being my 10th show, wanting to but never hearing Release as the Opener. I also predicted they would open with it. Well I missed it. We came in as Last Exit was playing. I asked the woman behind me what they opened with and she said "Release" and that put a damper on the show for a while. Only consellation was I got "In my Tree."

    wow that hurts, missing Release

    it was beyond cluster fuck

they had 2 security guys, doing nothing for 40 minutes standing there as people cut time and time again while the honest people were standing and waiting patiently. Then a few of us finally bitched to the two dumbasses. First response was "we are trying to think of something!" How the fuck do people who work there not have a plan already?

then after about 30 minutes of "consulting" one guy gets on the bull horn and announces window 1 and 2 are will call, the rest ten club.....well that made things 1000 times worse, as all the fucking pricks wandering around and at the end of the line just storm the front making an already unorganized situation completely insane. We went from one huge long line that sort of split into 6 near the front, to one giant mass of people making their own lines, pushing, being rude a-holes generally. Furthermore, once you actually got sort of close the windows were poorly labeled and you basically had to pick a channel and wait and see if it was your line. no gates/lines of any sort just total chaos. Best analogy I can make is imagine a 6 lane highway trying to all merge into one lane. But there are no boudaries on the outside so people keep drinving on the curb to get around the jam and then wedging their ass infront of people who were there for hours waiting ahead fo them.
So there was a huge logjam of people just standing for over an hour but never moving since people were constantly cutting in.

Yes we missed the entire BOH set.

Before all this there was no sign anywhere saying where tenclub will call was and half the people working there had no clue what it was.

worst pre-concert organization I have ever seen/been a part of.

getting in and out was not too bad, but it did test the patience.

Ten Club if you ever do Indy again fix this problem as it makes me never want to go there again (yeah respond and say good closer seats for me, real mature) The experience was offset by a killer crowd and PJ in great form, but man it made for a very stressful night

Yeah, cluster fuck describes it quite nicely. I'm surprised nobody got hurt during the stampede. I luckily didn't miss any of the show and I got some fantastic seats, so I came away happy.

Very nice summary of how it all went down! Yea it hurt real bad missing Release. Been a PJ fan since '92 and have always wanted to see it as an opener. Of course I have heard it many times on the hundreds of Boots I own but it has to be way more special hearing it live.

I missed it by about 7 minutes. My calculations would be about 7 or so of those Pricks you mentioned cutting line. After we didn't move for about 10 minutes, not one step I could tell people were cutting but it was so chaotic that you couldn't tell who was doing what. And could not at all decipher what the people on the bullhorns were saying. And I have already said it loud "Will never be back to this Venue again!

I will only say one thing here. There was a tornado warning in effect and those of us in the venue(they were letting people in the front entrance but not the back where the lawn seats were) were informed of it by an announcement that there would be a delay and that it was uncertain as to how long of if it would be cancelled. While I am not condoning how it was handled, I really dont think it was 10C or the bands fault. I think it was more of the venues decision and they handled it poorly. That said, I dont think it was done purpose. I just dont think that they had a plan for a tornado and really didnt know what to do. They delayed PJ for over 45 mins(I believe they took the stage at 9:48) so they could make sure that ALMOST everyone got in and got in as safely as possible. Just my 2 cents.

Yep, it was quite a clusterfuck. Luckily I was pretty close to the ticket window and was only the 4th or 5th person in line after the stampede so I didn't have to wait long. That stampede was crazy...hundreds of people sprinting in the same direction.

Luckily I didn't have to endure the ticket line Charlie Foxtrot! I did have to endure the worst f'n traffic I ever experienced. Took f'n FOREVER to get in the venue. The traffic was the worst of any PJ show or ANY show I've ever attended.
And oh yeah... I didn't know there was a tornado WARNING!! Thanks for the heads up indy staff. Damn good thing a tornado didn't actually roll through that biatch. They never said a word to us pavillion folks.

I don't blame the band for anything other than shitty display of ten club alpha slices on the will call windows

the rest is on the venue, run by a bunch of amateurs apparently
  • KCjamKCjam Posts: 135
Yea I am not blaming the Band at all. It was mainly a Venue cluster fuck. Everything from traffic to parking, security not being able to provide you with just basic information (like where are the Ten Club lines)! And yea if they would have simply roped those lines off I think things would have run much smoother.

And I would not have missed "Release!" I'll just have to get on here to say that every now and then. Just to vent is all. It may be years or possibly may never get to hear Release as the Opener!
