anyone know whats head jeff is using? im pretty sure the 4-6x10s are open orange cabs but i could be wrong. also i saw a marshall head which could be an old marshall bass amp and then what looked like a Acoustic bass head on the far right. can anyone help me out? just a fellow bass player curious to his setup. also i saw a bass in cleveland that i didnt see in cbus. looked like an old ampeg bass or possibly the gibson ripper. wasnt close enough to see the headstock.

From the videos I've seen from this tour I think it's pretty much still the same as what we identified here:

The cabs are almost certainly Ampeg cabs with custom tolex. He switched to them in 2005 (remember the florescent grillcloth?) and has used them since. I haven't seen good pics of his rig this spring, but I'd guess he's still using the Marshall for electric and the Ashdown for the upright. Maybe an SVT hiding behind his cabs, but who knows.
...and if you don't like it, you can suck on an egg.

The Marshall is their, his upright rig is the same. There is another "No name" amp on the other cabinet stack. Doesn't look familiar to me.

    Lots of humbucker bass's now.

I went diving deeper for some pics of the last few nights, and came up with some good stuff over on Flickr... good shot of the new Jeff amp here:

Glad to see Jeff giving props to MT, but I'll be damned if I can figure out what that bass head is. The Marshall and Ashdown are definitely on stage, and 4 cabs.

  • Yea MIG, I'm clueless on what head that is. It appears to almost be a marshal shell though.

I remember reading the Jeff had an unmarked Marshall head, at some point.

It does look like a Marshall cab, with the piping and everything, but the double-row knobs throws me for a curve, and the things on the input and power sides of the faceplate are odd for a Marshall, too.

i have had both a peavey guitar ( road master) head and bass ( mark IV) head that had a knob set up like that ( even looks like some are blue like my peavey's) . the the head looks nothing like either that i had
that's pretty weird, like you said the piping makes it look very marshall

  • That head could just be a custom deal.

Jeff's tone seems definitely brighter than the past tones. But as long as the boys play "The Real Me", who cares! Crap Jeff sounds awesome on that song.

I was thinking it could be a custom amp of some sort... handbuilt job in a Marshall-ish cab.

Also, I have to agree that Jeff sounds amazing on "Real Me". But when you're copping Entwistle, how can it not be awesome?

  • I started watching the Austin City Limit's show again last night. There are shots of this "Mystery" Head from behind too. I'll finish watching it this weekend, see if anything stands out.

I'm on the path that it's a custom too.

    I totally agree MIG.
