Thanks kor... that means a lot.
You know I always think, about how better this place would be if we didn't have the mt. Politics and religion can really divide and piss people off,and Im a perfect example :(

Hey that's really cool! Is your grandpa the one in the picture or one of the others they interviewed? My grandpa fought in Europe in WWII too. He's 85 now. I'll have to ask him where he was on this day. :)

I think that there are certain things that everyone can support. I could not imagine the jubilation on VE day. Must have been absolutely phenomenal, especially after so much suffering.

Crazy. I hadn't heard about that. My grandpa was a senior in high school when he was drafted, but they still graduated him - he just didn't get to finish his classes or go to his graduation ceremony. He was in the war until the end. While he was there, his dad died and they didn't even tell him until a month after he was buried, so he missed his dad's funeral too. When he got home, he had a mom and 4 sisters to take care of.

Congrats to your grandpa and all the veterans who fought against the common tyrannical threat in WW2. My dad's dad was tailgunner on a B-17 as was his brother. His brother's plane was shot down over Germany and was captured as a POW. Never really got to know the man but I've been told he was never quite the same. A few screws got knocked loose.

My granddad was a signaler on Lancaster bombers. He flew in the Battle of The Bulge, and bombed Cologne e.t.c. During one mission he was in one of only two planes out of ten in a formation that returned.
