Does anyone remember if they did another ticket drop for msg in 08?
Ticket drops happen at all arenas, because they have to hold tickets on either side of the stage from sale, until the lights and sound are flown. Once the lights and sound is flown (usually between 12noon and 3pm) the production managers walk thru the sections to see what tickets are good.
Bad seats are called Tech Kills and not released.
Good seats are called Tech Releases and put on sale.
I've put many, many tech releases on sale at MSG. It pretty much happens at 100% of concerts. It's just a matter of A) What time How many C) Whether they are sold thru box office or put into TM for online.
I would recommend calling the MSG box office and ask "when do the tech releases go on sale?" and "will they be sold at the box office or are they put onto TM online?".
They probably won't have a solid answer about the first question, but the second answer they give you should help quite a bit. Scalpers are probably very aware, so be prepared to be on your toes, particularly if you are buying at the box office.
Also - the only thing I'm unsure of is if Tech Releases for MSG 2 will occur on the afternoon of MSG 1. I would assume so.
....plus any tickets the band is not going to need to give away to their guests will also go on sale, as well as MSG's reserved section. This may occur earlier than noon on the first date... it can happen even days before, if they know in advance they don't need it.
