the sound of those philly boots

for anyone who is curious...i think it's safe to say that the reason the philly boots took so long was because they were mastering the sound quality. these are some of the best bootlegs they've ever recorded. it was definitely worth the wait. the '08 and '09 bootlegs have sounded like complete shit. i'm so glad they gave this the care it deserved....oh, and the band sounded incredible those last two nights (the 2 shows i've heard that i attended). i was less impressed being there than some around here, but i now know that that was due to my bad seats and the terrible sound. it was bouncing off the walls in there and everything sounded muffled. the band was definitely on for those shows though. incredible.

That is good to hear! I haven't checked out PJ Radio yet, but I'll take your word for it! The 2003 bootlegs were the best, sound quality wise (2000 was mixed great, but a little too low on the volume, you gotta crank some of them up just to hear everything).

Is the crowd 95% drowned out like the rest of the 2009 boots, only noticing there is a crowd at the show at the end of songs and when only Ed is playing solo like the beginning of Betterman.

good! i ordered the box set and was wondering...

anyone else notice that live on two legs has the absolute best sound ever?? what did they do different to LO2L that they didnt do on the boots..

also, i like the 2000 boots, but they are low.. .and the 03 sound great... but my bonnarroo boot from 08 sounds great, where my seattle 1-2 from 09 sound only ok.

Probably because the were mixed and mastered properly with time and were pressed and not burned. Hopefully this is what took so long with the philly boots. This is also the reason why the boots that are made days after a show don't sound as good.

I already heard the crowd has very little presence in the mix for the philly shows which I think is bad for a live disk because the crowd gives each song so much ambiance and provides so much energy. The crowds were great but you will never know that listening to the boots probably. This is what has been missing from the boots since 2003.

Yes we want the band to sound great but we still want to bring ourselves back to that feeling of being there and when you don't hear the crowd you just don't get the same chills you could with a louder crowd presence.

Listen to Betterman from 6/28/08 in Mansfield. No problem hearing the crowd on that one.

Obviously there are some exceptions, but I agree with the OP. You can barely hear the crowd during some songs...

No kidding, because it's only Ed playing when those parts happen. When the full band is playing you don't hear squat on those boots.

Seattle Night 1 last year... way too much crowd noise. Or should I say way too much Pegasus holering like a wounded banshee

I hear you man. The crowd has been silenced on the boots more and more since 03. However, in the case of some 03 shows I heard, it gets annoying hearing the same asshole yell the same song request every time the band stops playing.

The sound is fucking awesome I was at the last 2 shows and the have downplayed the crowd noise the crowd both nites were very noisey and much much louder than on the boots but then again couldn't here the music any where as good as the bootlegs, so all things considered they are really awesome bootlegs, glad I got all 4 nites and downloaded the last nite 3 cds of music for only 9.99 a great deal!!

Yeah, I love hearing the crowd too... especially on IN HIDING from Philly 3. You can't hear it anywhere near as loud as it was, but just hearing those shows mixed properly... bliss!
