Crowd Noise

A question for those who downloaded the flac's or mp3's of the Spectrum shows.

Can you actually hear the crowd on these boots or is it like the other 09 shows where it sounds like they add the applause to the end of songs like an old 70's sit com would add fake laughter or applause to the show? The 09 boots sound like there isn't even a crowd until the end.

I don't know why they changed their approach for the way they did the 2000 boots. I like being able to hear the crowd singing in the background even when the full band is playing and not just when Ed sings with just him playing or at the end of a song.

I don't know about you, but the loud crowd in the background is what gives me chills and brings me back to the moment and they have really taken that away from the boots post 2000 for some reason.

I have a feeling they are mixed just like the other 09 shows which will be very disappointing and take away from just how awesome the crowds really were at these shows.

I respect your opinion but personally disagree about the amount of crowd noise I like to hear on official releases. I'm actually of the opinion that the 2000 tour was professionally crowd-mic'd and that little or nothing came from the soundboard. I thought there was too much chatter being picked up and the sound of the music was undynamic. Sounded like mush. Sounded like Jeff never left the hotel room. Sounded like what I would call a very good to excellent crowd-tape. If it were a crowd tape and not an official release, I would be gushing as to how awesome the sound is. I have a higher standard for official releases. That standard, which I'm paying the band for, is a soundboard feed with some level of professional mixing and mastering. I think in the end, I can rock out better to the dynamic sound when I play it loud in the car or wherever. I would say that out of all of the PJ bootleg releases, LA-3 2009, for whatever reason, has the most incredible sound quality. It's just amazing. There is enough crowd to not sound sterile and I think the acoustics in the venue may have had something to do with the sound. The mixing/mastering? I don't know. But that one is just the most amazing sound. I'm hoping Philly sounds like that. I hope the amount of time it took for them to release Philly had to do with extra efforts to perfect the sound.
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river
  • they need to turn the crowd up. not to Benaroya levels (ugh), but somewhere in the middle.

Hence why I like my audience boots for these shows.
115 bucks for half a haircut by a novice? I want my money back!

There is no way a louder crowd mix would interfere with the sound of the band. It's what makes live shows so great in the first place. It's disappointing in my opinion. These shows had such crowd emotion and like the rest of the 09 boots it will sound like they are playing in an empty arena with phony crowd effects pumped in at the end of songs.

Bring back the 2000 tour boot mixer.

I downloaded the last philly show which I was at and the crowd does sound muted but the sound of the music and singing sounds so clearer than the actual show which I guess makes it all worthwile, the crowd was pretty loud that night and it was hard to hear some of the words Eddie was singing or even saying while he was talking between songs so it sounds like the cleaned that up alot during the mastering of the downloads.
