St. Louis

edited May 2010 in Given To Fly (live)
Anyone else notice they only played 4 BACKSPACER SONGS (I may be off by one)

What gives? A pretty standard setlist in my eyes......What gives? Are they tired of their newest album, too.....

P.S. Speed of Sound is so much better than Just Breathe......why no love from Ed & company?

I was also left a little bit wondering why so little new stuff was played considering they are touring on a NEW album. In Chiago we got 3 BS songs and the album wasn't even out yet

I found the set to be solid, but less than stellar. They played songs that were great, awesome live, but they were far from rare nowadays.

performance A- They looked tired to be honest and had some issues (very minor)
Sound mix: C could barely hear Mike or Boom from 3rd row right in front of Stone.

Set: B good mixture, not enough new stuff, no tags in Daughter...no doubt due to the lameness of the crowd at that point in the show. They got WAY better by the end, but they were weak at best the first 1/3rd of the show

    Pilate was a nice surprise

the recent shows I have seen prior from MSG1/2, Chicago 1/2 and DC were all better IMO

I felt like it was more of a mixed set since it had been a while since they played St.Louis

Demo version maybe...album/full band version no way... speed of sound on the album is tough. The demo is great though...

But i was also surprised at only 4 songs- esp since 3 are 'every nighters' for the most part (fixer, got some, just breathe)

It seemed to me that Ed really enjoyed playing the songs off of Backspacer. Seemed like he was proud of them, and really wanted to share them with the crowd.

I did think closing 1st set with The Fixer was lame. No "jam." No explosive ending (like ending with Porch/Reviewmirror/etc.) Kinda like, "There's the song, now we go on break."

Why this fixation on 'rare'? I hear/read this so much. 'Great' and 'awesome live' is good enough for me.

I don't know why everyone keeps on saying the crowd was lame...everyone in my area was really into the show and having an awesome time. I think the set was a great mix of stuff, I think they played the 4 best songs off of Backspacer (In my opinion). The one thing I noticed that was left out was any cover songs, usually they are good for one or two. But for the most part, I was very happy with the set list and the energy they had...I truly enjoyed it all the way through!

You must be pretty spoiled or bored by Pearl Jam to be rating concerts like this. They didn't look tired at all, I could hear everything clearly, and I had earplugs in. I was on Mike's side but still heard Stone pounding away over on the other side.

I can see the point about nothing having a lot of new stuff, but at this point they don't need to prove anything. If they want to play 4 backspacer songs, that's great. If they want to play 8, that's fine too. I thought 4 was good, and they also had 2 Pearl Jam songs, since last time they came through (not counting vote for change) they were promoting Riot Act.

I thought it was a rockin show. Had nosebleeds cause I had to come with three other people...sure wish you could get more than 2 with 10C. But good time anyway. Great setlist, I thought. The crowd wasn't the best. I was the only one in my section left standing for Pilate! Damn people sat down and texted! I just hope Ed knows that if he wanted us to repeat what he sang he didn't quite have the rhythms right...and that's meant in the most respectful way possible. He still rocked.

I completely agree. It was fucking amazing.

Thanks for the video! I'm short, so it's kinda hard for me to see sometimes. At least in St. Louis I was on the aisle. I couldn't see much of anything in Kansas City. Still, I thought both were incredible shows. St. Louis had more rarities, but they played my favorite song in Kansas City. :D
