I just want to say how spoiled we are as PJ fans.No other band has the balls to release EVERY SHOW warts and all to the fans.PJ mix up setlists, and we NEVER know what to expect.DMB release alot of shows, but not like PJ.U2?.Try nothing, sans 1 live DVD that is polished up for months and edited before it comes out, with songs dropped of course. If you look for a live recording of a U2 gig,you have to accept a shitty sounding bootleg.U2 are great, just frustrating.Anyhow,I just bought the downloads for the Euro 2010 tour.Dublin 2010 is a classic gig.The only slight, small minor complaint is the show is a bit short, not over 2 hours. But it is a seriously intense show.Long Road is my second fav PJ tune, and as usual is a great opener. Now what follows ,is pure PJ smack down, slap you in your face rock.Once,Fixer,Why Go,Corduroy,Severed Hand.Very nice.Love it.Amongst slows things down a notch, but is a good song that I like alot.Same goes for Unthought Known.Nothingman (another fav) then into the 1, 2 punch of Lukin/NFY.Those 2 songs were made to be played back to back.I could do without Down and Comatose, but thats ok.The shock is Arms Aloft.Eds speech is of course heartfelt and moving.I havent heard that song in many years.Im 43 ( :? ) and grew up with the Clash,The Jam and The Ramones.PJ do this song justice naturally.I havent stopped playing it.Do The Evolution sounds great,Ed screaming nonstop.Just Breathe/GTF are solid, which brings us to Of The Earth. Some have said this song is from the 2006 sessions for Avacodo.I dont know where its from, just that I love it.Sounds kinda like something from Vitology/No Code period. Not For You like. The buildup at the 2 min point where they jam out is intoxicating and very exciting and stimulating.Maybe it was the bottle of red wine I was drinking as well ;) .I just love something new.Encore 2 is fantastic. The Irish show how well they can sing during Small Town and Better Man.Kick Out The Jams is fun.Alive and YL end a very intense show.Must have been a treat to be there.I have listened to this show 3 times already.Next up,Belfast tonight.Im sure I will be pleased as I listen to another great live show, while sipping a glass (or 2 or 3) of Cabernet outside this summer evening.PJ and summer go hand in hand.Great music, great weather + great wine. :D Peace as always.

Just finished listening to Belfast on the way home from work. I missed it at the gig (probably because I was completely smashed) but I liked how Mike manages to recover on Alive after being too eager and flying into a solo a bit early. I guess Eddie can take some of the blame on that one though.
    Bloody brilliant show though.

Well, while I agree with your general sentiment, I must take issue with a couple of points. There are other bands that release every show they perform, such as Phish and Gov't Mule, to name just two. And there are plenty more that allow open taping and sharing of their recordings, which is also a de facto "release" - if not official, it is sanctioned and available for those who want it. See http://bt.etree.org and/or the Live Music Archive on archive.org. The number of bands that allow taping and the free exchange of the recordings is staggering! (In fact you will even find PJ at the etree.org site).

That said, I agree with the gist of your post, including your review of Dublin. I was at that show, and though it wasn't as long as some of the other 2010 shows, it certainly kicked ass!!

    Cheers!

P.S. and as a side note, although you won't find U2 on either of the sites mentioned above, virtually every gig they play does get recorded, and for the most part the recordings aren't as "shitty" as you might think! I have several excellent quality audience recordings that are really a joy to listen to. Just saying...

True. But the thing is,alot of bootlegs dont sound that good.I download alot of boots from u2start.com,they sound good, some better than others, and I listen to them. But at the same time,I wish I could just buy a cd, of a U2 show, from there webpage, like PJ do for us.I have dozens of bootleg shows from u2 over the years, but the truth,I wish they were releases.DMB release alot, but not every gig like PJ.Again, you are right in saying just download a bootleg, but most, IMO, sound like.... bootlegs. I downloaded the 2 shows I went to at Citi Field DMB,07.16,17.10.The shows I downloaded sound flat, tin, muddy sounding. :x Give me a released show anyday...Peace.
