If the pitch crosses that box at any point across home plate, then its a strike. If the batter swings and misses its a strike no matter what. If he hits the ball out of bounds, which is a foul ball, its a strike. A foul doesnt count if its the 3rd strike.
If the pitcher misses the strike zone and the batter doesnt swing, its a ball.
3 strikes you are out, 4 balls and you walk.
thanks for the help

yeah, a 4-hour, over-hyped, over-inflated version of baseball.
I love baseball.
"It's a disgrace to the game." Though that ump may be right, it's still fun to watch Yankees-Red Sox. Sorry FF, I'm a Yankees fan. See you in Hartford!

Baseball can be the boringist sport to watch, BUT it can also be the most exciting.. that's why I love it!
oh yeah, but the mets beating the cardinals 2-1 in a 20 inning game is so much better to watch...so much more exciting......right?? yeah, that was a game full of offense, wasn't it?? all i could think of was "those poor schmucks that stayed the entire game......don't they stop serving beer after the 7th inning?"
you're an idiot. how often are there 20 inning games?! the yankees and sox ROUTINELY play 3 hour plus games. It's infuriating.

wait, make up your mind. are the games 4 hours long, or 3 hours and some change?? if the yankees/sox games clocked in at 2 hours and 48 minutes you wouldn't have any gripe at all?
also, just out of curiosity, what team are you a fan of?
oh, and thanks for calling me an idiot. much appreciated.

Btw- I watched all 20 innings of that mets/cards game.
Sammi: Wanna just break up?
look, i like offense, lots of hits and runs scored. i also like a pitchers duel, seeing who breaks first. but honestly, i don't know if i could handle 20 innings at the stadium. that was a long ass game. and if i was at the park...i might get to the point where i'd say ok, i've had enough for today. 7 hours at a ballpark is rough. if it were a yanks/sox game...i just can't say if i'd stay the entire game. i'd like to think i would, but plenty of stuff comes into factor. i have a bad back, so i don't know if i could take that long in the seats. i'd most likely have my 2 kids with me. now maybe the 13 year old wouldn't mind it, but i would bet the farm that my 7 year old would be driving me nuts with "i'm tired, can we go home yet?" just me alone...tough call. i'd want to stay, but i can't really say if i would, it all depends on how i'm feeling say around the 15th or 16th inning. not because i'm not a fan, but because i don't know if my body could take it. and please don't question how much of a fan i am because of how long i would stay at a 20 inning game. that's just fucking stupid.
ok, hope that clears it up for you. glad you enjoyed that marathon of a game. and of course you watched the whole game, you're a mets fan. if i was watching a yanks game on tv (that's the key, on tv where i can get comfortable in a nice chair or on the couch and have a fridge a few paces away) that went that long, i'd watch it too. lol, i actually had turned that game on in the 3rd inning and watched a bit, but then had to go out and do some stuff. came home later that night and was watching espn and noticed the crawl on the bottom said they were still playing, so i put it back on and caught the last 2 innings. i wonder if i could be counted as part of that 9 million, even though i watched only about 4 innings total.
sorry about derailing this thread, i didn't mean for it to get to where it was. just didn't understand how someone could complain about a yanks/sox game going maybe a half hour longer than an average game...is that really so bad?
Seeing numerous homeruns doent really interest me.

Well, he probably shouldn't be watching an NL game. He might as well watch minor league baseball if that's the case, probably more exciting at least. [/quote]
As an NL fan, I say ouch! Bill Simmons on ESPN calls the NL "Quadruple A". I don't agree but think it is funny.
If the pitcher is really good. The highest paid player ever plays 3rd base.
It's all good to me. That's what's great about it. Every day it's something new.
