empty remains

He looked at her
as if he were seeing a sunset for the first time
If time could go in reverse
it did that night
the smoke filled air
the intoxicated breath

It seemed as though the wicks of the hundreds of candles illuminated the sky
everything that the soft glow touched, looked vintage and soft
his eyes
like emerald waterfalls with specks of amber
the most caring ones the earth has ever seen
they exposed his soul
heartache
abuse

Her smile couldn't have gotten any bigger
her dimples, any deeper
her hair as dark as coal
exotic skin
the smell of stargazers danced all around her
but in her eyes
emptiness
everything was lost, he was lost in them
no feeling
no memories
no warmth

The crowds of people blended into the road and the blades of grass
the world was empty at that moment
memories of her flooded his mind
twenty-six years seems to last but a mere few minutes

her body growing colder by the second
blood dripping into the pool surrounding her
clothes tattered and shredded, stained pieces
scattered about
bits of her exotic skin caught within the bristling road

Time was lost
she was lost
he was lost
what was, will never ever be again
and the young girl, lost
all innocence that once occupied her young mind and body
erased with no remains
