Anyone else in love with this album? Some of the most hauntingly beautiful music I've ever heard on it. To those who don't know it, just listen to the title track, that should provide an idea of what to expect.

It's one of my top 3 Tom Wait's albums along with 'Mule Variations' and 'Rain Dogs'.

I saw Tom Waits in Amsterdam on the Real Gone tour and he only sang two songs from Alice but the title track was one of them. Amazing performance that night, still my best gig yet. Just a great album from a great under-rated, misunderstood musician/songwriter. If we all listened to a little Tom the world would be a much happier place. :D

I remember the day that Alice and Blood Money came out. For some reason I had not even heard that he had a new record coming out, let alone TWO on the same day !!

Alice is a masterpiece for sure.
    Peace, Love.

Happier? I'm not sure about that. Definitely more interesting though! I wish I had the ability to see Tom Waits.. sadly, I only started getting into him about four years ago, and the PEDSKJUMBA (or however he spelt it) tour was primarily in the South. He's possibly my favourite musician though.

A few years ago when he came to Houston I was on this stupid little kick that I wasn't spending more than $50 /ticket no matter who I was going to see. I decided it was stupid for them to charge that much. Needless to say, I missed Tom Waits b/c of that, tickets were $85 I think. I don't think I have ever regretted missing a show that much. I've been kicking myself since.

Oh I think we'd all be happier! Once you get that moment where it all starts making sense you wouldn't want to start arguments or wars. We'd all walk around with headphones in and big smiles on our faces. :D There's something warm and uplifting about his music and lyrics even if the album might have the mood of desolation or abject misery, there's always a comedy moment to follow the tragic parts. A bit like a dark and disturbing Disney movie! I think the run of songs on Alice from Flowers Grave through No One Knows I'm Gone, Kommienezuspadt, Poor Edward and Tabletop Joe are as good as any TW material and it's a close call for my favourite album but this is in his top 5 for sure.

If it makes you feel any better Lacey if I ever meet you somewhere I can give you a kick if you'd like? I was gutted when I couldn't get tickets in 08 for Edinburgh or Dublin. :(
