Norway settles border dispute with Russia after 40 years

Just thought I'd mention it.

Norway and Russia have been disagreeing and negiotiating on and off for 40 years where to draw the line at sea in the north. The result seems to just about split the difference, and also calls for close co-operation between Norway and Russia when it comes to oil-production in the area.

Any thoughts?

As a Norwegian I feel relieved that an agreement was finally reached. The driver is probably that Russia wants to secure what resources they have, and without that dispute being settled, it would be risky and hard to take advantage of potential oil reserves. There will be a bit more wrangling on details, but I see this as Russia wanting to consolidate it's assets. They've just struck a new deal with Ukraine with gas price-reductions in exchange for the Odessa military base as well.

Peace
Dan

Exactly. Which is why I'm glad this is sorted out before it really becomes an issue.
