Matt can make or break a live song

Anyone else feel the same? I've been listening to a bunch of my boots lately and from song to song he really seems to have the most impact on how good each version can be. Especially some songs that they play over and over each night, I feel like sometime he changes some fills and some other areas to make some versions way tighter/more rockin than others.

I was listening to one of the Camden boots and the version of Jeremy really rocked and I don't usually get into that song much.

Just my opinion :?

can i get an example of him "breaking" a song?
Further back and forth a wave will break on me, today...
  • give him his drumsticks and keep him away from the microphone

    and a pen. :)

the only thing i can think of him "breaking" would be In My Tree, but thats not really a slam on him. that song was just made for Jack.

I am not anti-Matt, but I can give one example, he has really hurt SOLAT live.
  • This is all in my opinion...

He's a good drummer, sure, but to me, he's just kind of there. PJ isn't really drum heavy, live or studio. He just seems to keep the beat, do some fills, a solo here and there...nothing worth loving or hating, in my opinion. But I kind of like that in a drummer :D
Do you see the way that tree bends? Does it inspire?

I'll not lose my faith, it's an inside job today

  • Matt alone did not break SOLAT...if you're going to talk about tempo...mike starts the song and I the change in guitar tone and Eddie's voice over the last 10 years have made just as much of an impact on the song.

Same can be said about any member of the band.

I am a Matt guy, but Hail, Hail has not been the same since Jack left. One of my favorites, but it has lost the crunch and groove that it once had. SImilar to SOLAT I guess. The band does have a tempo issue in general though.
