So, this Goo Goo Dolls song comes on my ipod (I know, I know...what can I say? :shifty: ). Turns out, the opening riffs of Gonna See My Friend were lifted from Stay With You by the GGD :wtf: :wtf: :wtf:

I don't hear that much similarity, maybe the way the first 2 chords are hit but other than that I don't hear much.
  • Definitely not similar enough to be considered a rip in the slightest...

It seems more of a similarity on the drum part. But I've noticed a similar snare-heavy drum part on songs ever since Coldplay "Clocks" came out.

Some similarity, and possibly some influence even, but I'd believe it everyone in the band said they've never heard a GGD song too.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

i wouldn't, this kinda crap is retarded. i remember reading about all these supposed rips of the intro to Last Exit and laughing about it.

as if chords are somehow copyrightable.

im sure PJ was sitting around listening to fucking GOo Goo Dolls and thinking "how can we be more like them?"

if they took it from anyone (which im sure they did since BS is practically a giant homage album) it wasnt fucking goo goo dolls.

Mike did admit to ripping off Led Zeppelin a little, and Stone shook his head saying something like "this is the tape they're gonna use to sue us". ...but luckily LZ has ripped off 100% of songs from other bands, so them suing someone would open a huge can of worms for them.

OK, maybe not you. I was making reference to when the Metallica song came out in 2008, The End of the Line. There were threads left and right about how Metallica ripped off Why Go in the opening riff. The song sounds nothing like Why Go yet people were having a fit over it. The same thing could be said here....like Metallica was sitting around listening to PJ going, "how can we be more like Pearl Jam?" Metallica was selling out stadiums and millions of records before Mother Love Bone was even a group.

Wow, what a stretch. That intro riff is probably used in a million songs.. when the song structure is the same, then come back and make a useful thread.

they are hardly the same really, just the drumming is the same tempo. plus that song sucks.
  • this is worse than all the Real Me comparisons

are you tone deaf or something? this sounds NOTHING like G.S.M.F.
Maybe the opening two snare hits but this is seriously one of the most inaccurate comparisions ever. EVER.

WHOOMP there it is. SING IT!

Yep, they definitely ripped this off, and for the lead in the intro and outro, they ripped off the solo from the Saved By the Bell song. No doubt about it. Ha!

ALEX TREBECK - Be more specific.

~ What is things a TOTAL wienie would say.

ALEX TREBECK - Yes! You doubled your score and now are in soul first place. You still have control of the board.

Thank Goodness we're not all sitting around on the goo goo forums!

PJ will take thier influence from where ever they find it....but thank God not the Gooey girls...or so what if they did?..... :D
  • Goo Goo Dolls? Definitly a stretch..... but I always said that Gonna See My Friend does sound a lot like Velvet Underground's "Waiting for my man." Very similar guitar structure, and very similar title, with the same drug idea. I love both songs though
