Regular Version vs. Extended Version

I am currently listening to Porch (album version) and it got me thinking...
At shows, do you prefer to hear the "regular version" of a song or the "extended version"?

This question applies to the songs where the boys jam out for a while in the middle:
Porch
RVM
Crazy Mary
Even Flow
(any others im forgetting)

I personally could go either way but sometimes I just wanna hear the song in its original version.
Thoughts??

Cap'n your crazy. the live version of these songs accomplish a few things:
    1. they provide an opportunity to take a leak
    2. they give a different type take on the song that cannot be had on an album
    3. it allows guys like boom to fuckin rip it up a little
    4. live music is about jammin the fuck out

you are the king of the live show. how can you say you want to hear a studio-esque take on a song over a live one?

I'll take the extended version any day.

I got another question, why did they chose those songs to jam out a little longer??

Your userID is Big Hig?? Hahaha love it!
And I'm just saying sometimes with a song as powerful as Porch for example, I feel like the jam session slows down the pace of a bit. I wanna get into that 2nd chorus as quick as possible!

Extended versions of all the songs mentioned above. This is why I like listening to Pearl Jam's songs live over the album versions.

They are progressions/songs that just sort of lend themselves to jamming. Hard to explain unless you play an instrument. The progressions/bridges/ending sections in songs like RVM, Crazy Mary, Alive, RIFW, Porch, Wishlist, Black, Immortality, Daughter and Blood cater to opening up and exploring, as opposed to "stricter" progressions. It's hard to imagine jamming out to Animal, STBC, Nothingman, Can't Keep, etc.

Though I'd love a surprise jam! I think they need to jam out MFC.

Extended versions - every single time. It gives the guys a chance to loosen up, improv, and show off their chops.
And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.

Interesting.... i think it completely depends on the jam.

If Mike feels the need to melt our faces during Corduroy or Even Flow.. I'm all for it.

Personally Crazy Mary is a great song on album... but the live extended version (Buffalo 2003 in particular) is just UNREAL especially if you're there.

    Porch... doesn't matter to me..

    RVM..... i like the extended

    Porch - Yes - especially if its a la the early/mid 90s
RVM - no, although I love the breaks in the 90s... now they seem to almost die in the middle before they get going again

    Crazy Mary - no

Even Flow - yes, but not THAT extended :)

Another song I like when the band is really going is Immortality for some reason.
    :)

Different songs, different preference.....Stuff like the op mentioned begs for jamming, but PJ has plenty of songs they just work better w/o than they ever could with.
