The Eagles Did it! 50 years Without a Championship! CONGRATS

edited January 2011 in All Encompassing Trip
This thread is dedicated to the last 49 years of misery for the Philadelphia Eagles in honor of Draft Day and the start of the 2010 NFL season. They have not won a championship since 1960 and there is reason to believe that this will mark the 50th anniversary of that banner year.

What a franchise, huh?

We have seen many notable droughts for sports teams throughout the years, but I think this is a significant one.

The question is:

Will the Birds make it 50 straight years without a championship???

I would bet $1 Million dollars on YES if I had the money.

Now, let's hear your thoughts...

I am a Cowboys fan, and believe that the Eagles are going to rue the day that they traded Chunky for the next few years. A Super Bowl in a season that Kevin Kolb starts for the whole time is laughable (I will be the FIRST to admit I'm wrong if it happens)...now if MV takes over things may be different.

after seeing the birds use 3 draft picks for a questionable olb, i would still bet a lot of money that the drought will continue...

You are only at 42 years! Not as bad as the Birds. Keep your head up, you got a nice TE in the draft.

    Did you know??

During WWII, because a lot of players were called to duty, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles combined to become The Steagles.

Q: How many Eagles does it take to win a Superbowl? A: The world may never know

Q: How do you keep an Eagle out of your back yard? A: Put up a goal post

Q: What is the difference between a dollar and the Eagles? A: You can at least get 4 quarters out of a dollar

Q: What do tele-evangelists and the Eagles have in common? A: They can both get people watching at home to stand up and shout "JESUS CHRIST!"

Q: What do you call an Eagle with a Superbowl ring? A: Thief

Q: Why doesn't Allentown get an NFL team? A: Because then Philly would want one too

Little David was in his 5th grade class when the teacher asked the children what their fathers did for a living. All the typical answers came up -- fireman, policeman, salesman, etc. David was being uncharacteristically quiet and so the teacher asked him about his father. "My father's an exotic dancer in a gay bar and takes off all his Clothes in front of other men. Sometimes, if the offer's really good, he'll go out to the alley with some guy and make love with him for money." The teacher, obviously shaken by this statement, hurriedly set the other children to work on some coloring, and took little David aside to ask him, "Is that really true about your father?" "No," said David, "He plays for the Philadelphia Eagles but I was too embarrassed to say that in front of the other kids."

Well, lets see....you just traded away one ofthe best things to happen to your franchise in Donovan McNabb. I'm gonna say its gonna be 100 years before you guys win the Super Bowl.

Great thread... At least your team competes regularly over the past 10 years and you have actually won a championship. I am a Cincinnati Bengals fan... we have had 2 good years since 1992... established in 1968, yes you are going on 50 years, we are at 42 without ever once having the taste of glory... I dont see that changing anytime soon for us either!! Best of luck to us both!! Maybe my Bengals will meet your Eagles in the SuperBowl this year. If we did, I would buy you tickets to every PJ show for the next 5 years!!!! haha

That sounds like a safe bet

This thread will be a gazillion pages long by the time Philly hoists a Lombardi trophy. The funny thing is that every year Eagles fan talk smack and think that THIS year is their year. Too funny...

Let me get this straight. I am NOT an Eagles fan. I am a Cowboys fan who is offering up some payback for a thread started last year pertaining to the Cowboys playoff drought.

Don't ever insult my intelligence by suggesting that I like the Birds. JK ;)

With McNabb (who is mostly responsible for those 2000's appearances) gone in Philly, the Bengals will start to catch up.

After that draft by the Eagles, there is no need to worry about the streak being broken this year!

It's awful quiet over in that Eagles thread...

Just wanted to keep this thread near the top. I will keep it updated more when we get closer to the NFL season.

I'm an Eagles fan (first one to post in this thread, I believe). Their organization really rubs me the wrong way. Yes, we will make it to 50 years. That's ok - the Phillies made it to 97 years.

How about I add my biggest disappointments in the Eagles over the past - oh - 25 years...

1- 2002 - biggest choke ever against TAMPA BAY in last game at the Vet (Blaine Bishop is still chasing Joe Jurevicius in vain)
2- 1991 - best defense of the 90s, but a grotesque list of QB's after Randall's knee is blown out in 2nd quarter of first game (at least we have the House of Pain game in the Astrodome to look back on)
3- 1992 - Jerome kills himself in car accident in offseason, then Eagles can't stop Emmitt Smith in Dallas
4- 2004 - stupid turnovers in first half let Patriots stay close, take over Super Bowl in 3rd quarter
5- 2008 - Birds somehow win two playoff games on the road, and have a gift matchup with Cardinals in Champ. Game - and Chunky Chokeman #5 blows it again with an atrocius first half. Dramatic comeback falls short in the end. Yeah, the Redskins are gonna be better this year, but they will be disappointed in the end, just as we always have been.

I agree. They will have their fun until the big game pressure hits, then they will be disappointed.
