I feel shit tonight :(

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/myste ... 5856820616

This has got to be one of the worst sports news I've heard.
The only other time I was this shocked and pissed off/saddened was when club legend Wayne Carey left the North Melbourne Football Club in 2002 due to an affair with a teammates wife.

2007 & 2009 Premiers no more  :(

Well, this is one of the biggest days in sporting History, and possibly world sport.

Where else in the world has a team in an elite competition been stripped of two premierships, three minor premierships, ordered to hand back prize money, fined half a million dollars and stripped of all competition points, and any win this year counts for nothing.

This is huge, simply huge, and I haven't heard of anything like this, never thought a punishment this severe ever existed ever...

I'm sorry, but I am in shock.

And for a team owned by news limited (murdoch) well how embarrasing for the company.

Well bud, you do the crime, you gotta do the time. They cheated for 5 years. My mum always told me, every action has a consequence.

Those big Maori storm supporters should be bashing down storm hq

I really do not understand what there is for Storm fans to be angry about! The people who should be angry are the supporters of teams who missed out on premierships because this club has cheated. The salary cap is a shit situation but that is the rules many other teams would be doing a lot better i they were able to build super teams by ignoring the salary cap. They should not have rorted the system..... GO QLD TEAMS..... Brisbane, Cowboys & Titans!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • makes me wonder if any other teams might be a little scared at the moment.... I'd be devestated if I found out my team had done this....but i feel the punishment fits the crime....id be interested to know more if any of the higher paid players knew.. surely they would be suss.. they know what the salary cap is

If my team were cheating to this extent I would not be impressed and I am pretty sure that I would not expect them to get off scot free.

maybe they did cheat to promote the game in Melbourne but if Melbourne will only support a winning team then perhaps, they do not deserve one.

youre kidding right??? how can the rorting thats gone on within the storm organisation be a reflection on the fans??? and how does that reflect upon the fans as being deserving??

seems to me the fans werent given a choice from the get go. it was decided by someone that the storm would succeed no matter what. turns out that no matter what meant saying fuck you to the salary cap and thus to every other team in the competition, not to mention every single fan(no matter what club they supported).

Phil Gould is what makes me put the tv on mute when I watch games at home.

Phil Gould's problem is with the administration. He is a very smart commentator. But when he has an opportunity to sink the boot in he does. His attack on Gallop on Sudnay was a disgrace really. There could never be a winner out of this situation, Gould was trying to sink Gallop more.

Yet, after bagging him, he did bring up some good point's. I like Gould's opinion 86.5694847% of the time

What gets me is that Cameron Smith said the other night that they are going to explore the possiblilities in order to challenge the decision, so that they can play for points on the ladder this season!!!

Errmm let's see Cam??? The team you are part of has played for the last 5 seasons with a team that is "illegal" under the salary cap conditions and therefore has disadvantaged every team they have come up against in that 5 year period. As it stands the Mebourne Storm still are fielding an illegal team in it's current line up.

Personally I think the team as whole has gotten off with a reasonable punishment so far. Look at other sports, if a sportsperson/team partakes in what is deemed "illegal" by the conditions set by the governing body...they can face expulsion from the sport for life!

The penalty this season is basically the same the dogs got in 2002. Essentially, dogs were coaught out towards the end of the year, and were penalised enough points to ensure they came last.

and all this talk about maybe an amnesty for other teams cheating just makes me shudder. how is that fair to melbourne or the game?? its just bullshit.

It certainly is a big heads up to them to come forward with any dodgy dealings they have going on, rather than to have it exposed by an investigation. I'm sure that once the NRL/Deloitte is done dealing with the Storm, they are going to go through each and every team.
