Listening to the Soundgarden boot from Friday

I'm not sure I've ever heard Matt Cameron sound better. The man OWNED that show. He played with so much energy you would think it was 1991 again. I love Matt in Pearl Jam, and can't imagine the band without him, but hearing him drum for Soundgarden again just seems.........right. The whole band was on fire, but after listening 3 or 4 times Matt is the one who continues to stand out. It'll be interesting to see the affect this has on his playing time with PJ, especially if everyone in Soundgarden enjoys what they're doing and carry on for a bit.

I don't want this thread to turn into a PJ vs. Soundgarden debate. I guess the overall point is Matt is a total badass. Can't wait for some tour news. Peace.

I agree. He even managed to outshine Cornell during Beyond The Wheel, which is almost impossible with that song. Cornell hasn't sounded better since the nineties either.

Matt is a stud. My buddy and I agreed he was the brightest star on that stage Friday night. 8-)

Matt always sounded better on Soundgarden songs. He just had more interesting drum parts then what he is allowed or feels is necesary in pearl jam.

The past two albums have had some beter drum moments but he just never seemed to be the powerhouse he was on soundgarden songs.

I think we notice Matt more with SG because he is actually having fun playing Soundgarden songs. No knock on PJ but it is a differnet style of music that challenges him a bit more and he has more fun playing.

    Matt was meant for Soundgarden.

I'm still in awe that they played Beyond The Wheel and Chris pretty much nailed it.

DC, were you at the Cornell show at the Depot in 2008? Before the scream tour.

    No, I wasn't 21 at the time :(

I did happen to catch him at Lakewood Amphitheater when I was living in Atlanta. I've also seen him with Audioslave in 2003.

Does the rest of the bootleg sound as bad as Pretty Noose? It's my favorite tune by them, so it's the one I sampled. Cornell shouldn't be singing that one.

Cornell shows great range but not sure if he is really on this bootleg.

And you can't imagine PJ without Cameron.. Please... you dont need to be a total genius to play PJ songs.

Why you whippersnapper! I was going to say, if you were there, you would have seen my wife before. She jumped on stage and was promptly removed by security. Then she showed back up, pushing her way to the front about 5 minutes later.

He always sounded bad on that tune. SNL back in the day - yikes! His pipes are great these days, but for whatever reason that song...

I thought Pretty Noose was the low point of the night -- just wasn't happening...

I only checked out the first couple songs on the recording and Chris didn't sound good at all. I can't comment beyond those songs though.

Will still see them if they come through town.

And yes, MC was a beast on what I listened to!
“I know this song so well, I can smoke a cigarette, have a drink, brush my teeth, take a shit, and mow the lawn while singing it. But I'll only be doing a couple of those things during this version.”
