Going to see My Morning Jacket next Tuesday on April 27, Ben Harper & the Relentless 7 on Thursday, April 29, and PJ on May 6. If only I had an extra couple dollars I could also see AIC on Sunday April 25 (still a maybe). This is gonna be one helluva two-week stretch!

Im jealous you're seeing MMJ with the Jazz Band. I was just reading last nights review, apparently it was awesome. I don't get my MMJ fix until the end of the summer with Mr. Petty. Do post a little review of the MMJ show for us if you get a couple free minutes.

    Enjoy!

If Alberta Cross is still opening for BH&R7 on the 29th and you have never heard them, they are really great !

I had never heard of them until I saw BH on the 16th, they blew me away !! All i've listened to since then.

    Have fun !!

I have something similar- Pearl Jam 5/20 & 5/21, Dave Matthews Band 5/28, and La Roux 6/3. In between the concerts are various days off and various senior activities (senior cut day, ftw :D )

And all after AP week. So I'm more than pumped!

Have fun at all your shows!

here goes: show #1 MMJ with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band
First off, AMAZING show. While I only own "z" and "Evil Urges" I have heard a lot more of their music and listen to them frequently on Pandora. Highlights of the main show were Off the Record, Lay Low, & Smokin from Shootin (and a couple that i'm sorry to say i dont know the names to but probably staples of any MMJ show). All incredible with great extended jams. I'm sorry to report that I showed up late and missed all of the Preservation Jazz Band, however, that's where the encore comes in. They come out to join MMJ for both Highly Suspicious (which is one of my favorites, simply b/c its so different and kickass - especially live with all those horns), and then to top it all off they end the show with a cover of Curtis Mayfield's 'Move on Up'. Absolutely mind-blowing show. Rain began to pour and a cool breeze began to blow just towards the last fourth of the show which just really set the stage for a perfect end to the evening. (this was at an outdoor amphitheatre with most the seating bowl being covered and no lawn). Met some very cool peeps as well. Was just really disappointed that the show was probably only 2/3 full. THe place seats around 4k and i doubt there was any more than 2.5 or 3 there. oh well, their loss. anyway, i can honestly say that i'm now partly obsessed and will be purchasing every other album i can get my hands on very soon. More to come from BHR7 (w/Alberta Cross) this Thursday. p.s. sorry for all the parenthesis...I've had a lil to drink ;)

These guys are constantly making their way up my of favorite bands of all time. I would put them at #4 and maybe after another album they will overtake Queens of the Stone Age for #3. Every day I find a new song that I fall in love with which at one point thought I wouldn't be able to get into. In the past two days I have really gotten into Run Thru and Dancefloors. Gotta say the New Years Eve 08 bootleg is a must have for any MMJ fan I especially love their cover of Curtis Mayfield's "Move On Up"

I saw them once out of the three shows for Pearl Jam in 06. Thought they were pretty good, but I was unfamiliar with their stuff at the time. I bought Tennessee Fire, At Dawn, It Still Moves, Z and Okonokos the next week and fell in love with their music. About the same time Evil Urges came out, they announced summer dates, including our beloved Harborlights in Boston. It was dramatic, to say the least. Tropical Storm Hannah was bearing down on us right on the harbor. The venue is essentially an outdoor pavilion with a canopy over the whole thing. 2nd best show I've ever seen in my life. Melting faces.

Run Thru> Smokin' from Shootin> Touch Me I'm Going to Scream Pt. 2

That's the shit right there. With One Big Holiday to wrap it up.

Oh my goodness yes. The DVD is fantastic as well. I don't have it on vinyl, but I hear that's amazing too. I was at MSG in 08 and that was first rate also. Still waiting for the official live release of that.

I hope they officially release NYE 08 because that was amazing. The bootleg I have of that show isn't very good quality. Sounds like it was recorded from far away.

Show review #2: Ben Harper & Relentless 7 with Alberta Cross: Great Show! First off, Alberta Cross was very good, and was thoroughly impressed. They have a very cool sound and great live performers. Immediately picked up their album. The band hung around the theatre after their set so we got to chat with them for a while too. This was my first time seeing BH live (unless you count opening for PJ in 96) which I hardly remember. Really strong performance by the whole band. Ben plays with such passion that it's hard not to connect with the music. Cant remember the set list but did get to hear one of my favorites, Diamonds on the Inside, as well as Amen Omen, Fly One Time, Boots like These (kicked ass), and many others - he played for about 2 hours and 40 minutes! Ben chatted it up a few times and talked about the Weissenborne slide guitar that he had learned to play as a teenager which he used for several songs, and also mentioned that he thought the theatre was one of the prettiest that they ever play...pretty strong compliment. He ended the set with about 4-5 solo acoustic songs, which I must admit, while good, kind of just put me to sleep. I like to rock out during an encore and this was kind of a downer for me. Anyway, all together a really good show and I'm glad I went. Next up, PJ in Columbus!

I REALLY wanted to go to this show, but just couldn't swing it.

I have a pretty decent month of May for shows myself:

    May 1st - Nonpoint
    May 4th - Seether
May 21st- Pearl Jam and Band of Horses at MSG

Nonpoint Show Review: Killer show. Not a huge crowd which surprised me because they usaully sellout Floyds Music Store in Tallahassee, FL, plus it was on a Saturday, and they have a new album coming out tomorrow, but at the same time, it was graduation night for FSU. They played all of their hits, plus a couple from their upcoming album, and even a Pantera song- "5 Minutes Alone" to open up the encore. I went with a few people that either had never heard of them before or only knew a song or two by them and everyone talked about how much energy and emotion they showed on stage. Awesome show.
