Does MSG have time restrictions?

Hi, ive been to alot of shows for pearl jam. And sometimes you can look at your watch and just know, strictly at 11pm they must be finished. That sometimes is bad, because we all want long, 3 encore shows.

I was at Bonnarroo last year, and they obviously played well beyond their slot. And it was ok.

I also know they have sometimes said fuck it and paid the fine to play over.

So my question is, does msg have a strict time slot? In philly they could play all night, so im just wondering.

As far as I know, MSG has a curfew of about 11pm, which is pretty standard. Both nights in '08 at MSG, Eddie mentioned that they had persuaded security to allow them to push beyond curfew, but both of those shows were over by 1130pm.

In '03 they went way over curfew, so it could happen again, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

11pm curfew... after then they are paying a bunch of unions SIGNIFICANT overtime.

There is an unofficial 3 minute grace, like if a band is jamming and they end their song and its 11:02pm, then they are usually safe. But if they play to 11:12pm... they pretty much have to cough up a lot of money and might as well finish the hour. They alluded to working out things with the unions in 2008, so they might get a reduced rate for working in advance with them.

I believe Philly going over was to do with them being the final shows at the Spectrum and it was all organised before. I remember speaking to a Spectrum employee on night 1 and she was telling me that negotiations had already been made for night 4 for security and staff through to 1am... I think they left stage around 12:40am (I can't quite remember now)... which would have meant by the time everyone was out of the building, that would have been just about right.

Yeah -that is probably true. With NYC though, both shows in 08 they mentioned early having worked with the staff to extend curfew so I'm assuming they get a better rate if they get it taken care of earlier?

Probably, I was at both those shows but I don't remember that... must be getting old
