So I figured that because some of us had spectacular luck today at our Record Stores and the slim chance there might still be some stuff hanging around at some of the stores. I would post this thread for what people were looking for and see if we could help some fellow PJ fans out.

From what I gathered at my record stores, there were more than enough of these records: Flaming Lips, Soundgarden, Black Keys, Them Crooked Vultures and maybe a few others.

If you know where you can find some of the stuff others want or there is something you really want, then post it here. This could be the official Have/Want thread.

Thanks all.

  • I got the Lips DSOM but it's a pressing of 5000 and it's available at least in the UK allot cheaper on the Lips website and you get a copy of the CD with it.

I snagged the Stones 7" and Queens of The Stone Age Feel Good Hit of the Summer 10" picture disc. Would of loved to have got the TCV 10" but mostly the Blur 7" but missed out, I just wanted it because of the music being a fan of the band and it was new material but some of the people who got are money grabbing wankers and are selling them on Ebay for ridiculous sums, I hope Blur consider re issuing it just to piss the parasites off.

My record store still had several copies of TCV yesterday afternoon. All 'leftovers' will be put online Monday (for those shops having an online store.

Yea. What a way to rape the consumer. As previously stated, it had been $7 earlier in the day. I see they knocked it down to $60. HA!

If any UKers have a spare Soundgaden 7" or could grab me one, I'd be very grateful. Queued up from 6am here but they sold out by the time I got in (yes, seriously...) :(

You can order Muse through http://looneytunescds.wordpress.com/?s=Record+Store I ordered mine through them yesterday after missing out on Saturday ;)

ETA: scrap that, it doesn't appear to be listed on there anymore... sorry. That Soundgarden single is still there for $60... b*stards!

Don't feel bad. A few order's I heard today got paypal refunds on the Soundgarden singles. In their paypal order, it said they didn't have enough Soundgarden singles to go around (that they sold out), so they gave back refunds. It's weird cause a friend of mine was there the other day & they had a hundred or so of them. Then when they went online, many bought it seconds in. Many who bought it seconds in, got refunds back today. It makes you wonder, yesterday when they jacked up the price of that last Soundgarden vinyl, do you think they kept many of the other's for keeps knowing the value of those Soundgarden vinyl's? :|

I don't get these record store exclusives. I'm all for the concept of Record Store Day, and think it's a great idea. But what's with these insanely limited runs for some of these items. In the end it seems it's that your not getting new people to go to the stores, you're just getting the people who already go to record stores, to go on this one day. In my line of work we call it peak on peak. But in the end, with these limited runs, you're just begging for the ebay aftermarket to come into effect, and in the end just piss off people who are supposed to be the ones benefiting from the day: the people who continue to support independent record stores. I'll step off the soapbox now...

At Coachella, they sell the record store day releases on Friday. I got the DEVO 12" single (also got the new blue energy domes which I got signed by the entire band).

My fiance wanted the John Lennon single, but they sold out pretty quick.

I also got the REM Chronic Town album.

Check out this site if you are looking for record store day items. Not a ton of them available, but I did just pick up Queens of the Stoneage this morning and noticed they also had Them Crooked Vultures. Just a heads up for any who are interested!

I agree to a point, but a release of a few thousand goes a really long way when it comes to vinyl.
  • AndySlashAndySlash Posts: 3,262
I agree with what he's saying, for the most part. Yes, it's a day that will most likely bring in usual customers, but the thing is, they all come in AT ONCE. Ideally, they'll hang around for awhile and get to talking to one another. It's about celebrating the record stores and their communities.

As for reselling... These first couple years it was OK. But now RSD gets mainstream press, and the hoarders and flippers have caught wind. Next year will be even bigger, and bigger after that. If they don't start making these limited releases in more quantities, it'll only piss off the people this special day is supposed to be for and about, and will only line the pockets of people looking to make a quick buck.

I just went to my local record store n they have a few of the bon iver/peter gabriel 7"s left for $5.99. They also had 1 of the qotsa 10" left n some of the black keys 12".

I asked 1 of the owners if they take phone or email orders n ship n he said definitely.

I can post the link later when I'm not on my phone but it's harvest records in asheville, nc

yeah, i totally agree with your point here about ebay. case in point, the one special release i am interested in is readily available on ebay, but in the 20-30-40 buck range. from the sources in this thread, that is clearly many times what it sold for in stores - which yes, does piss me off, as someone who supports independent record stores at every chance (ie whenever i'm in a city) but lives too far from one.

but that just makes all the great people around here who are wanting to help me out even that much greater!
