people always use this expression.....personally, I can remember "the good old days"....days when the economy was humming, we weren't at war, things were good. Actually, there had been a lot of good years after Vietnam.

Will the world ever get so fucked up that people remember 2000-2010 as "the good old days"?

that's what I was wondering....will it get worse? I'm afraid it will . Politically, all anyone is worrying about is power.

I know it's crap, I tend to feel that things are like a pendulum, swinging from bad to good, but hopefully spending more time inbetween than anywhere else. These days I feel like we're stuck in the bad with no sign of movement. Perhaps I should feel optimistic about change with our General Election coming up, but can't, at the moment think the politicians are all tossers and they're all just giving us a load of bullshit to get us to vote for them :(

Damn, I think I've had an optimism bypass, hope it comes back soon :?

I hear ya....I'm happy....just don't think is ever going to be a period that anyone views nostalgically (other than, maybe, Dick Cheney).

I think the "good old days" is eternally and always in the past. (And in some instances illusory, as the "good old days" actually weren't THAT good if one goes into details)

Everyone longs back to when they were young, the world was simpler (mostly due to inexperience at the time I'd say) and there weren't so many problems (as they will still be in the future for the most part).

Kinda like even Socrates in way before BC complained about the disrespectful, rude and lazy youths of his day, you know? It's more or less a constant, no matter what time you go to, some will be nostalgic about the past...

So yeah, give it a few decades, and I'll guarantee that many on here will look back at the "good old 00s" with loads of nostalgia and longing. It's part of aging I suppose.

    Peace

For me the "good ole Days" isn't economy or world politics, its affairs of the heart. What's happening in my world.
Music, memories, the things I loved. The era you speak of was my hayday so I think I will remember it fondly.

When I toured with Michael Franti for 9 days Ziggy sang this song very well on his Drangonfly Tour *The Good Old Days*.

    irie days come on play
let the angels fly let the devils die
got to do what you can with the time at hand
Ali boom mah yeah Ali boom mah yeah
don't worry your mind its just the test of time
in five years these be the good old days

no one knows what the future holds for everything has a season
its not a time for war its a time for peace
    tomorrow knows tomorrow woes
I remember when grandpa use to say grandson these be the good old days

these be the good old days

now comes the moon with its starry lights
and so begins the night life
the tribal dance puts me in a trance
as she pulls me in with her magic swing
I asked of her what do we celebrate
she said to me these be the good old days

these be the good old days

leh leh leh leh leh leh leh leh

there is no future there is only now
let's cherish these moments that we now know

these be the good old days

Ziggy was completely right in 5 years *these be the good old days* when I toured with Ziggy and Michael that was back in 2004 9 days 6 cities. The same year went to see Michael in London's Jazz Cafe 3 nights in a row after his return from Iraq/Israel/Palestine. Then I went over to Belgium...Wercheter Festival and France along with many other dates on the east coast US.

I'm NOT traveling near as much in the tough times everybody is having, not these days so 5 years later *those were the good old days* :D

yeah, but there was a time when both could be good. Now, you can have a good, happy life......but the rest of things suck. That said, I guess most kids would always look back on their childhoods as "the good old days," no matter when they were young (assuming their childhoods were "normal").

I'll rememeber the aughts as a good time in my life....but a fucked up time in the world.

This is one of my favorites that buts a smile on my face and helps me not to forget that it's the simple things that really matter......I am Lucky! I have a job, I can pay my bills, I raised wonderful boys, I have lived long enough to enjoy my grandkids...I am lucky enough to live at the beach......I am able to still walk, and run!

I haven't done this in a while ...but I would walk the beach and watch the sun rise listening to this song and it was a good way to start the day Happy! It reminded me to try to live as if it would be my last day.

These Are The Days by 10000 Maniacs

    These are the days
    These are days you'll remember
Never before and never since, I promise
Will the whole world be warm as this
    And as you feel it,
    You'll know it's true
That you are blessed and lucky
    It's true that you
    Are touched by something
That will grow and bloom in you

These are days that you'll remember
When May is rushing over you
With desire to be part of the miracles
    You see in every hour
    You'll know it's true
That you are blessed and lucky
It's true that you are touched
By something that will grow and bloom in you

    These are days
These are the days you might fill
    With laughter until you break
    These days you might feel
    A shaft of light
Make its way across your face
    And when you do
Then you'll know how it was meant to be
See the signs and know their meaning
    It's true
Then you'll know how it was meant to be
Hear the signs and know they're speaking
    To you, to you
“We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution.” Abraham Lincoln

And there's this one from when I was a little girl. My Mama and I we would sing. Dad played the piano. The one he let me paint hot pink with black lapels. I remember his fingers on the keys, the little black onyx pinkie ring and his feet working the pedals. He would really get going

The late 80's were pretty rad. You had the end of the Cold War mixed with the rise of the Nintendo Entertainment System. Absurd action movies were at their peak. The music was bad but other then that I don't have too many complaints. Of course, I was around 10 years old :D
