The 90s

Just sitting here, doing some of my Master's Degree... listening to some Foo Fighters... having myself some red wine (too much in fact) and checking in on the site (in particular- seeing if there was a Reaper hoodie in the goods section).

Soundgarden tonight in the showbox- Fukin rights. Obviously, up here in Canada, won't be in attendance. I'll see them though (when they get going).

The 90s were wicked. Going to school, playing basketball, partying, and:
Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Jane's Addiction, Porno for Pyros, Metallica, Tragically Hip, Dave Matthews, U2, Bush, little bands like the Screaming Trees, blah blah blah. Fak. What an era. Now it's Rap music- sheesh. Will another era such as the 90s present itself?

I thank Pearl Jam and Dave Grohl and Soundgarden and- oh yeah, The Wall is coming- Roger Waters (yes... he's outside the era) and all the others for countless hours training with my sports walkman and now my iPod. And... I thank them for continuing... because when I'm going to a show... or months before I go to a show... I'm 22 again... and memories long forgotten become fresh again. These guys make me happy.

The young folks these days have no idea about mixed tapes and how you had to make critical decisions in the middle of a run like: "Do I rewind and get back to the beginning of those last three tunes (wasting the AAs)- or do I ride out the next clump?"

What an era. Foo Fighters 'Band on the Run'. I'm out.

The 90s were great.. but so were the 80s, 70s and 2000s.. there's a shit load of awesome music out there. 90s only stick out because it was your coming of age. Our parents say the same thing about their decade and same with grandparents.. There was plenty of awesome new music this decade. Some of my favorite albums came out this decade.

    Open your mind a little.

"It's like the every-other-decade theory, you know? The '80s were lame, the '90s rocked, and the '00s-- Oh, my god, they obviously sucked. Come on. Maybe the '10s will be radical. You know?

Talking Heads, The Cure, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Ramones, R.E.M., Depeche Mode, Social Distortion, Bad Religion, Devo, I could go on and on!

I'll take the 80s over the 90s any day, and I grew up in the 90s...

hell there were some amazing albums and bands this decade. Wilco, My Morning Jacket, Kings of Leon, The Strokes, The Killers, The Shins, Muse..

Have to agree with the OP, the early 90's music was great and I'm sure that it does have something to do with that period of your life. It was definitely better than the music that started coming out when I was in college ('98-'01) with stuff like Third Eye Blind, Barenaked Ladies, Creed, etc...

Sometimes i think there will not be another 90 for a while because there were in direct contrast to the late 80's( winger, britney fox, cinderella, warrent) other than guns and roses and metallica, rem, tphb in the late 80's the 80's began to suck and how. Nirvana and Pearl Jam were like a message from the ROCK GODS. On one hand it was a reniassaince on the other lets hope we never need another.

    I dont remember the 90's......
  • Mr. Smith...

You have embarrased me. When I was detailing my 'moment of pause reflection'... I spoke off the top of my head. Alice in Chains was a huge influence. I had 4 90 minute tapes, 16 AA batteries and my sports walkman to accompany me on a solo trip to Costa Rica in 92 (93?). 'Dirt' and Peter Gabriel's 'Real World' and were the two that did it for me the most ('Rooster' is my current ring tone).

This post was non-threatening. Some dude posted on here something along the lines of, "Geez Man, get over it. Every era is great. Our parents. The 2020's. Blah blah blah." I wasn't saying it was the greatest. I was only reflecting.

    Frickin great era. Great.

Man, it's the same bullshit they tried to pull in my day. If it ain't that piece of paper, there's some other choice they're gonna try and make for you. You gotta do what Randall Pink Floyd wants to do man. Let me tell you this, the older you do get the more rules they're gonna try to get you to follow. You just gotta keep livin' man, L-I-V-I-N

    Jeff Buckley too :)

I'm profoundly disappointed by music these days, that's not to say it's not valid, I just think that it's time for a change... again. Only 1 band for me in the 00s... Muse, that's it.

"That's the thing about high school girls, man... you get older, they stay the same age." (I may have misquoted that, apologies... friggin' love that movie!)
