I'm 31 now, but when I was 16 I loved Type O Negative. I saw Type O in 1995 open up for Pantera. There are a few moments in ones life where things change. That night was one for me. It was the first real concert I had ever been to. It set off a chain of events that is still going today. From that night on I became a concert junkie. Hundreds and hundreds of concerts since but it all started that night. Saw them one more time after that. Have been listening to Type O this morning. Just sucks.

this is very sad, my brother is a huge type o fan, i saw them live with him a couple years back and it was a great show. Lots of great music, and a sound of their own. Type o Negative will truly be missed.

Big time bummer. I really appreciated their unique sound. Not to mention they were Brooklyn boys done proud. I saw them in NYC a few months ago and Pete didn't look good. Perhaps he's in a better place now. They were always their own band, no bullshit and some great songs. Wishing Peter the great peace.
  • ive been reading it all day. Josh confirmed it. I really wish it was a joke.

  • This is some sad shit right here. I'm listening to "World Coming Down" right now, and I'll be listening to other albums later. Too bad that it's true.

  • I just can't believe this... I read the official statement this morning, still hoping it was another joke... I've loved Type O for over a decade. I wasn't lucky enough to see them and now I never will...

RIP Peter, you were a true metal/goth legend.
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

One final bump for the late Great Peter Steele !!

Lily Munster ain't got nothing on you .
  • Uh, this sucks big time. I'm listening to Type O repeatedly, and I'm playing all the songs I know on guitar. It's the end of an era. I can only hope that Pete is at peace.

Type O Negative was/is one of the best metal bands ever. Peter Steele may be gone, but he'll never be forgotten.

Listening to "World Coming Down" right now.

  • Today is one year since we lost the great Peter Steele. It really isn't fair, but such is life. There's a great tribute about him here if you guys are interested:
