I watched this movie last night and figured I'd discuss it. Not sure how I feel about it... on one hand it's merely an interpersonal story about two flawed people and how their past issues and experiences shaped their future, but on the other it is bit insulting to the topic of area and in some ways, demeans the significance of such a human tragedy by attempting to evoke emotions for characters which pertain to it. Perhaps not to explain or excuse the actions or defend them, but enough to make you wonder in the slightest bit in the opposite direction, which morally doesn't sit well with me. What was your take on this movie?

Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law-breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. - Louis Brandeis

human tragedy exists all around us every day in every part of the world ... we often tread lightly with the holocaust because society dictates to us ... i had a few issues with the film but definitely not with the context ...

once again kate winslet shows considerable emotional depth in her performance ... the subtext in the film for me was: ignorance and lack of education are key to making people do things they otherwise wouldn't ...

I completely agree - I think the most significant words spoken in the film were those of the main characters law school classmate about how the entire society sat on their hands and turned a blind eye. The trials had become a witch-hunt to scape-goat a few instead of the recognition of the many's very deeply flawed ways and in-actions.
