can any of you music theorists help me out?

I love parts in songs where one person is singing the chorus, and then another person at the same time is singing a verse, or maybe another part of the song.
Is this a countermelody? Counter harmonizing?

to give some examples
blink 182-feeling this- from 2:08 on

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImvyMwLlb7U

you have tom doing the main chorus "fate fell short this time your smile fades in the summer", and then at the same time there is also mark doing a different part at the same time. What is this called?

another example

Keane-a bad day from 3:12 on.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5l-GSDo72c

You have the line "for a lonely soul youre having such a nice time", and then counter to that, at the same time, is "nothing in my way, i dont wanna go, i dont wanna stay"

what is this called?

My favourite demonstration of this is "Kid Fears" by the Indigo Girls featuring Michael Stipe. Absolutely amazing.
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V

"Jocko says yes and I believe him"
    "Lonely feelin, deep inside"

    The best....

Queen, Beatles and Beach Boys own this.
  • the indigo girls michael stipe song reminds me of this summer, after owning the first few REM records, I finally listened to them for the first time. Alot of the early stuff relied on canon, and i loved that.

    Harborcoat is a great example

i love canon because it sounds so beautiful.

I'm pretty sure it's a noun though (not a pronoun)

    refering = replacing
six one way; half a dozen the other
