Wherever I go always stay in hostel - nice atmosphere and much cheaper than any hotel. Same here. Eight subway stops is good enough for me. ;)

It's an apartment style hotel with kitchen. Books up way ahead of time. We stayed there in 2005 and it was terrific. Get's great reviews on trip advisor. Last time I was in NYC (Oct 09), it was booked out so I stayed at comfort inn on 46th which was pretty good too.

This is the fanboi hotel of this year. Much like Hyatt in Chitown last year.

  • radiocity one looks pretty nice, 46th street is a bit farther, especialy if you want to walk. that the main reason i stayed at hilton express madison square garden, for the location and price. it was just over $200 a night, and is just i think 2 block away or 1 block. dont want to worry about car in ny.

    Hilton Garden Inn Chelsea

A bit more expensive, but its in walking distance, good reviews and got a reservation for two queen beds. Liked the larger bed since ther is four of us sharing the room
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of
arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to
slide in sideways, BBQ sandwich in one hand, cold beer in the other,
body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "Woo Hoo what a
    ride"!

Rates in NYC seem to be increasing as we get closer. Last month I stayed at the Hilton Garden on W 35th for about $125/night, now it is going for $259/night for 5/20 and 5/21.

At this point I am seriously considering staying in NJ - I found Courtyard by Marriot in Secaucus for $99/night. I would just park at the Secaucus Junction train station, which is a short drive from the hotel (about 4 miles) then a 10 minute train ride to Penn Station/MSG.

Fashion 26 by Wyndham. The hotel just opened this week and is reducing its rates as a promotion. We got a room on Fri, 5/21 for $159!

This place is absolutely fabulous if travelling on a budget in NYC. I have stayed there many times and would definately return! Great location. 15 min subway ride to MSG. All you could want and more on a budget!!

Well that would be a nice little perk. I already liked the goldfish idea. :)
