Matt will stay with Pearl Jam.. Those bands were cool back in high school, but I can think of a shit load of newer bands I'd rather see.

As much as I love Soundgarden I'm hoping their reunion is short lived so Matt can go back to focusing 100% of his attention on Pearl Jam.

to answer the question posed in the thread title....

    cash fucking checks.

good for him. this soundgarden thing won't last long. i would be shocked if the total amount of dates they end up playing is more than 10.
i have a paper here that entitles me to fast track status

Cash checks is right! And endulge in a little nostalgia.. It will be a fun little vacation for him, but he'll know after a few weeks where he belongs.

probably drum in both bands seeing as how pj does 2 week tours for each region these days. so it really shouldn't hard for matt to drum in both bands.
Ron: I just don't feel like going out tonight

I'm unsure if Soundgarden in 2010 has the crowd pull of Soundgarden in the mid 90s. My feeling is they will do some festivals, smaller venues and feel it out from there.

With all due respect and admiration to Soundgarden, I think I saw either their second or third last show (Big Day Out 96) and to tell the truth, it was not a great performance. It was quite obvious the magic was gone and the guys would rather have been anywhere other than playing together. I'd think to recaputure their former glory and energise their fans, they'd need to record a kick-arse album and aim for the kind of show PJ put on every night to build momentum.

In 2009, Peal Jam played to 30-50k a night in Australia's big stadiums (and all were very close to sell outs with just a few crappy seats available). Faith No More recently toured and probably played to a quater the number they played in in the 90s in much smaller venues but did festivals too. If Soundgarden were to tour, I'd see them playing 2000-5000 seat venues over here and I could not see too many problems getting tickets.

i only got the honour to see blind melon once. at reading festival, in 1995 but what a show.

    Neil Young/pearl jam
    Soundgarden
    Pavement
    Mudhoney
    Buffalo Tom
    Babes in Toyland
    White Zombie
    Blind Melon
    Pennywise

that was the main stage line up that day.

one of the best posts in this whole forum...

it is well documented, the respect blind melon had for PJ.

what a band blind melon was, what a shame they were so short lived, they would be icons if they were still around (in original form - i know they are still "technically" around")

  • i dont know if its an either or thing. for all we know, maybe matt feels stagnant in pj. maybe he doesnt. who knows. plenty of musicians are in multiple projects. jack white for example, or dave grohl in the early 2000's, seemed to be in a ton of bands as well.
  • who knows. the guy hadnt played full time in sg since they broke up, i am sure the guy is itching to try something new. he loves the pj catalogue, but we all like to shake things up a bit. you never know, the sg thing could take off or he may find he likes playing sg songs better.
