Casey James (American Idol) compared to Vedder

Casey did the only non-Beatles song of the night--John Lennon's dark and desperate solo ballad, "Jealous Guy"--stripped down and acoustic, accompanied only by a cellist, and it was unexpectedly magical. His voice, possibly due to an authentic lump in his throat, took on a gruff, Eddie Vedder-esque quality during his raw and emotional performance. (I wonder if he had someone special in mind when he was singing this song?) He seemed a genuinely choked up, and so was I by the song's end.

I enjoyed the performance, but I don't see it myself. Curious what others think. Try not to be too harsh, guys. ;)

He's murdered the song. I've heard buskers do a more honest and worthy version. Now listen to the real version.

Reminds me of when they were comparing Ed and Jim in the 90's. And if I wanted to listen I'd listen to the real deal...

I very much enjoyed Casey's performance last night, hunk a hunk a burning love, he is one cutey for sure. He is also a humble young man which is very appealing.
But his voice is more a Greg Allman than an Eddie as Ed's is so very strong and pure. I am hoping Casey sticks around a bit and would love to hear him do I'm No Angel, he could do it well.
This year I like all the contestants, no faves, its just a talent competition which I have always loved those, people seem to expect so much.
  • never watched the show, but sounded alright.

a few parts sounded a little Eddie-ish. from his early live days.

definitely sounded more like Eddie than Michael Bolton though.
  • I thought he sounded pretty good.

I didn't hear the Eddie Vedder comparison, though... nor the Michael Bolton.
