Craziest Thing You've Done To Go To A PJ Show

With the new tour approaching, and crunch time for finals approaching at the same time, this brings an interesting question to mind. What's the craziest thing you fellow Jammers have done in order to attend a show?

Personally, 2 years ago for MSG, I went to the show the night before my Physics Regents. (This was after crunching out an english final in 45 minutes (should have taken 3 hours) in order to get to the Garden on time) Had a blast at the show, got home at 230, got maybe 40 minutes of sleep and got a wonderful 37 on the Physics Regents. (Probably more along the lines of me being a dumbass when it comes to math, then the after effects of the show, but I digress) Would do it all over again the same way.

Have a similar situation this year. I already finagled a way to take a final early so I could go to St. Louis, but I think I just figured out a way to go to Columbus and still make it back to New York in time for an 8 AM final Friday morning.

So what are some crazy things you people have done?

Night 2 at MSG two years ago...Maybe even the same show as you. I went to the show knowing I had training the next morning I could not miss. So I said no big deal, I would drive home and be home by 2 or 3 at latest. What I didnt realize is that construction happenes in the city during the middle of the night. Suffice to say, I didnt get home until 6 am. Training was at 9. Most miserable day of my life, but I did dream about the show every time I dozed off!!!

Decided to drive to Boston 2 08 5 days before the show, from IL. Even had time for a few stops on the way. RocknRoll HoF and Niagara.

October 31, 2009 - Took my son trick or treating until 6:30, got on the road and raced the 70 miles to Phila. fearing a traffic gridlock from the World Series Game being played right next to the Spectrum. Luckily, traffic and parking were not that bad, made it in plenty of time.

I was in Philly 10/30 even if I had to run the NYC marathon two days after...

...wow, the concert took its toll during the run, but I would do it again.

..and againn, and again, and again.... :)

Walking up and down the main strip of central Manchester, with the Northerners not exactly known to take kindly to idiot clowns, with that bee/convict suit on, decked out from head to toe, for a whole day.

How I didn't get beat up I do not know.

Or, after Vancouver last year, flying back to London via DFW to do a job interview and allow mother to visit, then getting my arse back over to pond again to Philly to finish off the tour.

  • Scheduled a doctors appointment as a sophomore in high school next to the venue. Then skipped the appointment to get ten club seats. Scored second row. You can see me during given to fly on TB2K. I am the tall kid not looking at the stage with spiked blue hair.

My wife and I were planning a big move...from Southern California to Colorado. We pretty much had all the plans set. Movers were scheduled, work, everything. Then Pearl Jam had to announce a tour. We postponed our moving plans a couple of weeks and saw 5 Pearl Jam shows in and around Southern California. That is one thing that I REALLY miss. I would always get to see the boys about 4 times (LA, Vegas, San Diego, Santa Barbara) when living in Cali. Now I have to travel to go see them. I'm not complaining though. It's nice to still get to see them in new cities that I've never been to!

Since moving here, I'll have seen them in Seattle, Kansas City, and Cleveland!
I'll ride the wave where it takes me...

    it was for Benaroya Hall.
at the time, i was living in Salt Lake City. i wasnt able to get a ticket through the ticketmaster sale, but i still wanted to try.
it was too much $$$ to fly directly from SLC to SEA, but I got a cheap ticket on Southwest from Reno to Seattle. So, I took the greyhound bus over night from Salt Lake City to Reno (took about 7 hours). walked from the bus station in downtown Reno to the Harrah's casino and used their airport shuttle to get to the airport. Flew to Seattle. Luckily I had friends that had already got in line at Benaroya. About 5 minutes before the show started, they released tickets and I was able to buy one. I ran into the lobby and heard the band starting right as i was finding my seat.
    Great Show.

also, in 2000, I was living in North Carolina and got a job at Delta just so I could fly for free to Seattle for the Key Arena shows. you had to be employeed for 3 months before the flight benefits would kick in and my background check was taking awhile. luckily, it went through on the next to the last day before my hire date would be less than 3 months before the shows.

In June of '95 my friend Stacey and I hitchiked from NY to CO to go to Red Rocks. Took 4 days and we had to ride for 10hrs with some guys who were heading to a Rainbow Family gathering but we made it to the show. That was one sick ass trip.

My friend was getting married so I got 6 girls together in a minivan to go to the Randalls Island show in '96.
We used the show as her 'bacholette party' and had crazy times finding male dancers in the parking lot who were willing to entertain us.

In 2005 I flew from NY to Halifax, then took a hellacious ferry to Newfoundland, only to find it was still an 11 hr drive to St.Johns. I brought my niece, who was supposed to watch my 7week old daughter while I went to the shows. She was 20 and the drinking age in Canada is 19 so on the night off btwn shows she goes out and gets alcohol poisining and is too fuckin sick and hung over to watch my kid and I had to miss the 2nd night in St. Johns. I couldn't even sell my tickets after standing out in the rain in front of the venue for an hour and finally found a passerby to give them away to for free. So I traveled over 2000 miles and had to eat tickets too.
    That's crazy shit.

I'm a tax Partner in a large CPA firm in Virginia. The band was in Raleigh on April 15 in 2003 and I did not want to miss out. I worked my butt off for weeks to put myself in position to leave early. I got out of the office by 11am and drove the 5 hours to the show.

Just so we wouldn't PO my fellow partners I left my compuer and lights on in my office to make it look like I was still in the building working somewhere. hehehe

Long post, I know, but it's a good story:
I decided to go to Chicago 2 alone a couple weeks before the show last year. Had no 10c tix, no hotel booked, no transportation rented, but I bought a plane ticket, and figured I could figure out the rest at some point. First concern was a ticket to the show. Figured I would go to the arena, and find a fellow 10 clubber that had an extra, and that would be that. The night of the first Chicago show, however, I was on here reading about the "poor" 10c seats, and decided to check tm. A single lower here and there, but nothing great, so I didn't buy. Went to bed, got up at 4:30 to get ready to make my 2 hour drive to the airport in Tampa, but decided to check tm once more before I left. Found some seats that had just been released I guess, right next to the stage, Stone's side. Bought my ticket, and headed to the airport.
Flew to CHI, took the "L" to downtown, and proceeded to walk all over and see a bunch of awesome sights (since I didn't have to go with my original plan of hanging at arena box office....sounds kinda creepy now). Took a bus to the United Center, picked up my ticket, then headed to the pre-party with some other 10 clubbers I had just met. Had a blast, met a bunch of awesome people , but best of all (sadly), finally got to put down my bookbag, which was my "luggage". Walked back to the arena, got my bag searched (and got a real weird look from security guard when he saw toothbrush, deodorant, clothes, etc...). He made me check it in at guest services (woohoo). Got my poster, and proceeded to see an awesome, awesome show with some pretty awesome seats.
OK, here's the "crazy" part. I picked up my "luggage", and took the "L" back to the airport, where I SLEPT ON A PUBLIC BENCH with my poster and bag tied around me so no one could get it without waking me up. Got a little sleep, ate breakfast, then flew back to Tampa. I then drove two hours back home thinking to myself that I had just had one of the best days of my life. Something I never would've done (going to a strange city, walking all around it alone, then sleeping on a bench), if not for a PJ concert. I must say, I can't wait to do it again!!! :D

 Ooh, I was there. (And I've only been to 6 PJ shows in all my life.) That was my first Pearl Jam concert! I write of this often, but they played on my 23rd birthday!

I definitely remember that rain: Especially driving back to central R.I. in the rain, in the dark, through the woods...

First time I saw them they were opening for Neil Young in '93. Heard from a relative that they would be on the bill. Had no money at the time so I returned a new pair of shoes I had just recently bought and hitchhiked 10 miles to get to the ticket outlet. Bought 2 tickets and traded the other for a ride to the show.

Classic! I think that must be a result from when he/she skipped 6 months of elementary school for the '93 tour. :)

Mine isn't that crazy, but I had tickets to 3 shows, 3 nights in a row, in 3 states on Riot Act. San Diego, then to Vegas (not bad), then to Phoenix. Well in Vegas, ended up staying up almost all night hanging out after the show in the casino. Played blackjack next to Vedder, met Mike and Boom, and saw Stone but didn't disrupt his game. I don't remember the exact sleeping/waking times, but got about 3 hours sleep, then had to drive to Phoenix to get in line to get tix and go to the show that night. Not too bad of a drive, but probably not the best planning. Of course, Ed's voice was weak in Phoenix cause he... stayed up all night partying in Vegas the night before!

I notice the band doesn't really do 3 nights in a row anymore...

Flew from NY to LA day of the Who tribute.. Woulda went earlier but I went to see Los Lobos in CT (free show too) the night before... Nervously sat through a 2-3 hour delay on the runway, then luckily snagged a quick connector in chicago 'cause I only had carry-on (I always have delays when traveling through chicago... ) Didn't miss the show, but never again will I fly the day of an event.
