Yea, I knew this thread would get no love...not a lot of PJ fans really appreciate hiphop...especially hiphop that competed with Pearl Jam in the same time period of the early 90s....too bad. Because this album is a serious gem. Such a real album interms of beats, lyrics, and general message trying to be conveyed

i have been a big fan of a tribe called quest for almost 20 years now. a friend played the first albumn on a bus trip one time and i was hooked.

saw them at a nye show and busta rhymes came out for scenerio. great show. only down side was that we stood around for a long time as the show didn't start till late.

A Tribe Called Quest - 'Low End Thoery'

This is the greatest hiphop album in existance.

All you gotta know is that the album starts with...

Back in the days when I was a teenager
Before I had status and before I had a pager
You could find the Abstract listening to hip hop
My pops used to say, it reminded him of be-bop
I said, well daddy don't you know that things go in cycles
The way that Bobby Brown is just ampin like Michael
Its all expected, things are for the lookin
If you got the money, Quest is for the bookin
Come on everybody, let's get with the fly modes
Still got room on the truck, load the back boom
Listen to the rhyme, to get a mental picture
of this black man, through black woman victim
Why do I say that, cuz I gotta speak the truth man
Doing what we feel for the music is the proof and
Planted on the ground, the act is so together
Bonafied strong, you need leverage to sever
The unit, yes, the unit, yes, the unit called the jazz is
deliberatley cheered LP filled with streeet goods
You can find it on the rack in your record store (store)
If you get the record, then your thoughts are adored
and appreciated, cause we're ever so glad we made it
We work hard, so we gotta thank God
Dishin out the plastic, do the dance till you spastic
If you dis... it gets drastic
Listen to the rhymes, cuz its time to make gravy
If it moves your booty, then shake, shake it baby
All the way to Africa a.k.a. The Motherland (uh)
Stick out the left, then I'll ask for the other hand
That's the right hand, Black Man (man)
Only if you was noted as my man (man)
If I get the credit, then I'll think I deserve it
If you fake moves, don't fix your mouth to word it
Get in the zone of positivity, not negativity
Cuz we gotta strive for longevity
If you botch up, what's in that (ass) (what?)
A pair of Nikes, size ten-and-a-half (come on, come on)

    ---

    Enough said
  • It's in my top ten hip hop albums of all time. Just like Rock albums, it's too hard to pick a number 1.

It's up there along w/ Straight Outta Compton, Paid in Full, Fear of a Black Planet, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx and Illmatic.

I'm glad to see that there is a signifigant amount of love for this album. It once again proves to me that Pearl Jam fans do have a good taste in music....now if only my Allman Brothers thread could get more love (besides posts I make that is lol)

One of the best, most influential hip-hop artist of all time in my opinion.

'Low End Theory' & 'Midnight Marauders' are two of the finest albums of any genre.

In terms of inflence & impact in music (not just hip-hop) up there with -
    Public Enemy 'Nation of Millions...',
De la Souls '3 Feet High & Rising',
    Run DMC 'Raising Hell',
    EPMD 'Striclty Business',
    Beastie Boys 'Paul's Boutique',
Eric B & Rakim 'Paid In Full'

Check Q-Tip's solo album 'Kamaal/The Abstract' too. Not straight up hip-hop, but much more expansive & definitely shows the extent of the great man's talents.
    Cymru Am Byth

PJ albums, at the moment!! -
    1,Vs 2,Vitalogy 3,No Code 4,Yield 5,Ten 6,Backspacer, 7Pearl Jam 8,Binaural 9,Riot Act.

    great great record
tips solo stuff is also great
  • Hip hop and house were so good back then. They were my focus, not PJ, and I don't regret it!

I'm loving this new ATCQ album. I didnt even know there was a new album in the works. Their Saturday Night Live appearance tonight makes a lot more sense now. I'm sure it will be bittersweet with the absence of Phife, may he R.I.P.
