Getting laid off......

Well, I just found out I will be losing my job May 1st.

Im not going to let this get to me. I am going to collect unemployment for the summer, and then hopefully find another job.

So it looks like I will be going to Columbus, Cleveland, and Indy after all.......

See everyone at the shows!!!!

    Really sorry to hear about it but at least you'll be able to hit up a few shows after all which is a big bonus! My husbands been on strike for the last 10 months...sure it's been tough but just remember if you live inside your means everything will be okay!

    It does suck and God forbid I ever find myself in the same situation....I would be a fuckin' basketcase. Life throws shit at everybody sooner or later....but one way or another it will all work out.....sooner or later. Hopefully sooner for you man...

    How long were you working for the company? Are they just downsizing, or are they completely closing?

    I'm sure you and Kathy are both in shock.
    Although they say things happen for a reason.

    Completely closing....

    I will not be paid for my 3 weeks vacation time.....
    I will no longer have health insurance......

    I want to throw up....But I am going to handle this as best as I can.....

    Kathy is vacationing in Denver, with her family. I have not told her yet. I will wait till she comes home Saturday.

    by law, you still can get COBRA for your health insurance- if you can float it for a few months until you find something else. Talk with the HR to see how much it will be.

    Speedy... if I remember correctly you live in Phoenix? Or is it Chicago...

    I lived in Phoenix (Tempe, actually) for 2 years and was laid off about a year ago.

    There aren't many jobs out there... but damn what I would give to go back. I fucking hate Pennsylvania.

    I got the same news on Monday. the partners are gonna tell me today and it will be my last day. I'm told I'll be getting a one month severance.

    if I hadnt just bought a condo in November I'd be happy and would try to hit the whole tour in May.

    need to look into unemployment as well. no idea how it works.

    But that is Arizona...

    I didn't think that an employer could legally not pay you for unused vacation time?

    I'm so sorry too Speedy, so many good people are suffering. Glad you have PJ to look forward to and a summer off with the family. Enjoy and try not to worry.
    So no cobra health for you because biz is closing? There are some federal things going on to help with that if you want to carry health insurance. Just check into on line. My friend got some help with that although it wasn't a super great deal money wise but she could afford it and by law couldn't be turned away.

    If they file for bankruptcy (I think only chapter 7) they don't have any obligation other than to pay you for the time you actually worked.
