Thanks for posting this ChiquiMonkey! I can't always count on you for the Neil Finn updates. I have to say though, I was disappointed in their last album. This first song is pretty cool. I think Neil plays better live than in the studio.

yeah the first album sounds like they were still getting their bearings as a band again, although there were some beauts on it. very excited about the new stuff! and yeah neil shines live for sure, and i LOVE his solo stuff. i wish he would do another solo album/tour again
and i just scored tix for the warfield show in SF.....COMMENCE CABBAGE PATCH *patching with fury*
We're going to see them in Austin! Woot! My wife has been wanting to see them since she was in junior high and she got me into them after meeting her. We're stoked.
Out of curiosity, have any of you heard the new album, and if so, what do you think?
I've been playing it for the better part of a week now, and I'm still not blown away by it. I don't want to go into too much detail in case people haven't heard it yet, but for me it definitely doesn't feel/sound like a CH on top of its game.
And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.

I felt the same way on the first listen. It's growing on me now though. Isolation and Twice if You're Lucky in particular I'm enjoying. It's a mellow album for sure!
It's hard with them, it's like they've written such incredible songs, hard to recapture that sort of brilliance.
I'm still so excited to see them next month, love Neil to pieces

Some of the songs have definitely grown on me, while others... well, haven't. I saw them in Atlanta on Sunday night and thought they kicked arse - Matt can play the shit out of the drums, and I'd love to see that utilized more on the albums. I still don't like "Either Side of the World" though - it makes them sound too much like a pastel-clad lounge band on a cruise ship to my ears. They seem to be hell-bent on promoting that song though - it's going to be the third single from the album, and before they played it in Atl they told a (slightly dubious) story about how it had been played on the juke box at the club they were at the night before and everyone danced to it and loved it. However, I'm yet to meet someone who actually likes it, and when they finished playing it the crowd pretty much stood there and clapped politely (a far cry from the raucous reaction they got after playing "Saturday Sun," "Amsterdam," "Twice If You're Lucky," and "Isolation"). It seems like the fans aren't really catching on with that song, but the band is bound and determined to push it as far as it will go.
Where are you going to see them? Atlanta was awesome - a standing room only floor (if you wanted to sit, you had to go to the balcony), and the crowd was into it from the get-go (with the lone exception of "Either Side Of The World"). Liam played on a couple of songs (including "Silent House" which was sublime) and Sharon sang on "Archer's Arrows" and "Isolation." Matt plays like a man possessed, and added a whole new dimension to "Private Universe" - if that song was a home run in baseball, we're still waiting for it to come down (even with the odd detour into "Black and White Boy" in the middle of it). Plus, it's hard to beat a gig that starts off with "I Feel Possessed" and "In My Command" back-to-back.
