Washington (CNN) -- A 33-year-old Pennsylvania man has been arrested and charged with threatening to kill House Minority Whip Eric Cantor of Virginia, the No. 2 Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives, the Justice Department said Monday.
Norman Leboon of Philadelphia was charged in a two-count complaint with threatening to kill Cantor and his family. Leboon made the threat in a YouTube Internet video sent to Google this month, according to a U.S. Justice Department statement.
Neither Cantor nor his family were harmed as a result of Leboon's threat, the statement said.
"The Department of Justice takes threats against government officials seriously, especially threats to kill or injure others," U.S. Attorney Michael Levy said. "Whether the reason for the threat is personal or political, threats are not protected by the First Amendment and are crimes."
If convicted, Leboon would face a sentence of up to 15 years in prison and a $500,000 fine, according to the Justice Department.
The congressman was notified over the weekend about the threat made against him, Cantor spokesman Brad Dayspring said. He is "deeply grateful for, and would like to dearly thank, all local and federal law enforcement involved."
Cantor was at the center of a dispute last week between Democrats and Republicans over what many observers argue was overly heated partisan rhetoric at the end of the health care reform debate.
Democrats blamed Republicans for helping to incite angry conservatives, while Republicans accused Democrats of hyping threats for political gain.
Cantor told reporters Thursday that a bullet had been shot through a window at a campaign office in Richmond, Virginia.
Richmond police concluded Friday the incident was the result of "random gunfire."
Cantor also said last week that he had received threatening messages.

So does this mean that everyone on the left supports or condones this type of behavior ?
I guess so since everyone that attends the Tea parties are abunch of racist rednecks.

You might want to amend your title. The "left" - which includes myself - is pretty much unanimously against violence against any Congressman or other elected offical, Eric Cantor included. Heck, we don't want violence against anyone, period.

Then again, Mr Cantor still has to explain his charge of his office being shot at when clearly he was lying, no? ;)

And furthermore, all these faketriots who encouraged vandalism and damage against Congressional offices should all be arrested too, no?

yeah most of us on the left have been calling for non violence. we are against war and capital punishment and torture. cantor is a lying opportunistic racist twat, but he does not deserve to be threatened.

not sure what your motives are, but this thread does not make the teabaggers look any better though...

Didn't Alec Baldwin encourage violence (death) toward President Bush? Seems like he did at least a couple of times. Why wasn't Baldwin arrested and charged with a crime?

I used the title I did to make a point. The point is that to say that all the people that attend the tea parties condone violonce or anti semetism is just as absurd for me to say that every one on the left condones what happened to Cantor. or to say that all christians are like Tim Mcveigh, And you are smart enough to know that.

What do you want him to say ? It's a fact that a bullet did hit his office. Now was it intentional or just a bullet that was fired into the air ? From what police are saying it was a gun that was fired into the air,but that still doesnt mean that he lied about it.

Of course they should be prosecuted. I don't condone violence, vandalism or anything of the sorts.

antor is a lying opportunistic racist twat, but he does not deserve to be threatened.
What did he lie about and why is he a racist ?

    what a bullshit thread title.

  I made the choice to use the title I did to make a point. And Im pretty sure there's nothing they could do that would make you like the tea parties gimme. Im sure you would like to see them all silenced and neutralized if you could have your way.

Lets say it was a specific group, say PETA that did this. That would be more acceptable. For instance, I could also say the right supports the KKK because a few do. The Tea Party is an organization.

See this is what I don't get from people that think like you or say things like this. Hate is hate no matter where it comes from. You can't proove that everyone feels that way. Your right people are angry and they have every right to be when Our representatives mock or don't listen to us. But that doesnt mean that they are all hateful. when you call them hateful and out of work clowns really bothers me. So i guess it's there fault they lost there jobs? I thought you libs cared about people ? or is it just when they subscribe to your ideology you care about them ?

This whole argument is getting old. You and I know that there are nuts on both sides. I also think that a lot of you have really short memories or selective memories. I say this because there was so much hate coming from the left at the anti war protest. Whether it was speech or an effigy it happened. and there has always been more from the left than the right.

I don't think the entire RIGHT is nuts. Like I said earlier, I think PETA is nuts a lot of the time, even though its probably the actions of a few. I feel the same about the Tea Party.

But what you don't get is that you are one of the nuts on the right.

You have linked Obama with socialism and marxism. You have spewed hatred of his appearance. You have towed the crazy rightwing teaparty line in every thread I have ever seen you post in.

There are many "rightwingers" here on this board. And many of them can have decent dabates and ideas at times. But I have rarely if ever seen a post from you or Ariel that hasn't been some stupid talking point from the teaparties.
