On January 1, 2010, Cornell alluded to a Soundgarden reunion via his Twitter, writing: "The 12-year break is over and school is back in session. Sign up now. Knights of the Soundtable ride again!"

Rumors on the internet say the band will be headlining festivals such as Lollapalooza, although no official confirmation has been issued by the band.
With Lollapalooza happening on August 6-8, A full 7 months after chris`s famous twitter and still no word on whether Soundgarden will even play the festival leaves me scratching my head trying to figure out whats going on.

Sounds to me like nothing was planned out before this announcement was made on January 1, 2010.
So the question is .....Did Chris Cornell announce the Soungarden reunion a little to early?

Hopefully and probably. I don't want any Matt commitments with Soundgarden to impede the chances of Pearl Jam touring ;)

Ain't it funny when things change so much, it's all state of mind?

Good question. This might have been a premature announcement to fuel CC's need for attention.

Pearl Jam just announced their 2010 Spring American dates less than two months before the tour begins. So assuming Soundgarden will be touring around Lolla time, they still have some time before they need to announce any dates.
words seem so out of place.

Actually I read somewhere, maybe on the "Other" forum, that word around seattle is that Soundgarden is working on new material.

    Just to clarify.
So then Chris may have blown his load with this premature announcement?

If by new music you mean newly written tunes, I doubt it. That doesn't sound that credible since they've talked about putting a rarities album out and they've also been workin on mixing some live stuff, w/in the last year.

I don't think he announced it too early. It put it in peoples heads to start watchin out and there's been a few info "leaks" to fuel the fire, along with a little email(with a free dl) and a Record Store Day release.

I dont believe it, but boy do I hope it's true......
A new Soundgarden album would be awesome, but I will settle for just a reunion tour....

  • I definitely think so. He got everyone all excited and there hasn't been much news. I'm still nervous about what Matt's plans are...

Definitely, I think. Took some of the buzz away and probably a lot of initial ticket sales that would have been happened from impulse buyers. I think Lolla getting them would have been huge if we hadn't already known about it, like small rumors like we were having then getting it confirmed they were back together when Lolla announces its lineup... But, that's just me. I'll see them either way if they come around the area, but it was bad marketing on Cornell's part, I think - although given some of his decisions over the last five years, well, ...

I don't know. My hope is still alive and I'm still pretty excited about the thought. It gives me hope that at least Cornell is wanting to get back to his roots whether the Soundgarden thing happens or not.
  • They have been rehearsing here in Seattle over the past few weeks so something is definitely brewing. Just WHAT remains to be seen.

    I really don't think so.

Soundgarden's plans changed. I think they were supposed to be touring before pearl jam came to europe which is why the US almost didn't get any shows but it seems they have changed numerous times according to all the rumors.

Wouldn't be suprised if it was Ben / Kim who came up with the reunion idea (except the fans of course :D )

We'll hear something soon enough and when we do it will be massive.
  • I haven't read the other opinions here but thought I would share my answer.....
Yes he did announce too early strictly because he wanted to give folks a reason to forget that dreadful album he polluted the Earth with
