I am coming from MN to see PJ for both shows. Anything else I should see in the city or any preshow gatherings I should be aware of? The flight was more than I wanted, but what the hell huh? Never been to the big city, not sure what to expect!! Excited though to see the boys at MSG!!!!

Thanks!

Pre-show.. Stout 33rd btwn 6th & 7th ( they will usually play a PJ concert on the TV's and everyone there is going to the show.. but gets crowded), or Mustang Sally's same deal all PJ music.

  • When are you flying in and what do you like to do? I can list a bunch of things if you give some more details

I am flying into JFK that day, the 20th at 10:00am. I am leaving Sunday at 9:00pm. I am planning on going to both shows. On Saturday I am hoping to score tickets to the Yankees vs Mets game at Citi Field. Love to catch a game if I can (and afford it). My plane ticket went from $280 to $370 in a day. Insert f-bomb here. I really enjoy sports, but open to what the locals do. I have never been to NYC and want to experience the hot places, but not really a night club guy. More like a good deli/restaurant/site seeing /walk around kind of guy. I am not loaded, so a $100 night on the town is not really an option.

Thank you for the information and suggestions! I hope to see some of you there. Sounds fun!!!

go read the NY for dummies thread
and $100 does not go far in NYC if you intend to consume alcohol at any bar or restaurant
you can eat cheap, but the booze adds up quick
must have reasonably priced food: katz's pastrami and a shack burger.

Pjs makes a fine burger, but they are small. But they also have great beers and its a classic NY spot.
The shack stack is simply one of the best burgers ever created. There is a lot of hype, true, but man are they good.

They also have the biggest damn urinals I've ever peed in. An upright coffin.

    authentic!
  • I'm a native and the ONE thing I take visiting friends to do that has had the biggest WOW is walking over the Brooklyn Bridge. If the weather is good, do it! Bring your camera and no matter what time of day you go you'll get awesome shots. :)

Anything else you need, shoot me a PM, I'd be happy to make suggestions.
    Why go home?

I bought that bridge in 1967. I charge $1 to walk from Manhattan to Brooklyn. But PJ fans get to cross for free.

    actually
    I own that bridge
and Id like to sell it to you

lease with option to buy possible :mrgreen:
  • I'm traveling from MN for the shows also.
I second the Brooklyn Bridge suggestion. It's one of my favorite things to do in NYC. Take the the A or C train to High Street (one stop into Brooklyn). Walk the bridge back into Manhattan.

PERFECT thanks everyone!!!!!! I am more of a food guy than booze guy so I should be ok with saving some money. Who knows though, after a weekend in NY, I might be a crazy party animal. Can't wait to try some of the suggested spots!

Thanks so much everyone and keep em coming if you got em.

If you like clam chowder, raw clams and oysters, go to the Oyster Bar in Grand Central Station. Delicious New England chowder and a great selection of oysters and clams. Plus, there are other eateries there, as well.

Highly unlikely. Subway series always sells out early, even at Citi Field.

+1..<3 <3 the oyster bar...amazn seafood caesar (restaurant only, not counter) ($, but soo worth it)
if you just want to ck out the chowder and not sit down, there's a walk up window

gotta love the $30 Caesar salad-crab and shrimp YUM

personally, I love the oyster bar-it is an institution
as I mentioned in the dummies thread (which you should read completely)
go to the small bar opposite the entrance
tell the bartender marcello that adam sent you-he will get you anything you need on the menu and take good care of you
personally, the soup is overrated (unless they have the lobster gazpacho!) and so are the entrees. Stick to the raw bar, the appetizers and the cold dishes(fried clams or clams casino and a house salad is nice and less than $20)
the the sea scallop pan roast is one of the best deals in town (but it is very rich-like a heavy bisque) $12!
but sitting at that bar, having a bloody mary and enjoying a dozen oysters or a crabmeat cocktail is pure bliss!

If you like classic cocktails, check out PDT (Please Don't Tell) in the East Village. People call it the "secret" bar, but it's really not a secret since everyone knows about it. It's adjacent to Crif Dogs. To get in, walk into Crif Dogs and go into the phone booth. When you pick up the phone, someone picks up on the otherside and asks you how big is your party. If they have room they let you in, if not they don't. It's a very small space (I personally get claustraphobic because of the low ceilings) but everyone else I know LOVES it. And you get to impress your friends. If you don't get it, it's not anything to do with attitude/velvet rope, it's just really small!

The bartenders here are serious, no cute girls in little skirts who don't know what they are doing. They take their mixology seriously and are happy to chat with you. They also serve hot dogs from Crif Dogs (which are deep fried) and have really good fries.

Holy sh%@, these suggestions are AWESOME!!! Thanks everyone. I will have to try this secret phone thing, sounds bad ass. I will have to check out this oyster bar too, sounds great. You guys are making me super excited, just hope the money stays will me instead of pumping it into the city leaving me with no way to get home.

    THANK NYC NATIVES!!
