1. And Pearl Jam.…….omg. I had forgotten just how good Eddie Vedder is. I quit listening to Pearl Jam back in the days of Vitalogy. And boy, I have been missing out. PJ’s version of “Love Reign O’ver Me” was the best of the night and every bit as good as the original. As good as the original Who were on later in the show, Vedder was better.

2. And if you watch the VH1 special, be sure to skip the Pearl Jam version of “The Real Me” ’cause not only do they suck but they ruined one of the best rock songs ever. WASP covered it, and killed it. Pearl Jam covered it, and it died.

(ha! this one made me laugh... WASP, seriously?)

3. Man, this is where my age really shows. This is one of my favorite Who songs. But even though -- like most folks of my, uh, g-g-generation -- I have a soft spot for The Who's music, I've never really been a huge fan of Roger Daltrey's voice. That means I'm enjoying Eddie Vedder's version all the more.

4. I caught some of the VH-1 Rock Honors saluting the Who last night. It takes a lot to impress me (because I am a jaded, cynical fuck) but I thought Pearl Jam covering "The Real Me" was amazing. Jeff Ament, who I was always indifferent to as a bass player, sounded great.

5. First off, did anyone watch The Who tribute last night? It was pretty neat... my absolute favorite performance, Pearl Jam doing "Love Reign O'er Me". Awesome, awesome, awesome!

6. Pearl Jam was the best performance of the night by far. Eddie Vedder is the only singer I've heard who can match the power of a young Roger Daltrey. The did a killer version of Love Reign'Or Me and The Real Me. By the way, what the hell was Sean Penn doing introducing Pearl Jam?

(oh wow, you know this guy knows nothing about who Ed hangs out with, or Into The Wild for that matter)

7. No one can ever upstage The Who (who the show tributed), but the two song live tribute by Pearl Jam was fantastic. Their rendition of Quadrophenia’s “The Real Me” was absolutely amazing. Eddie Vedder fit right into the Daltrey vocal style and the band tore right through one of the most angry and powerful rock songs of all time.

8.he highlights for the show were the following: Pearl Jam. It’s amazing how grandiose this band has become as they now are no longer the new guys on the block. Dare I say that their version of “Love Reign O’er Me” is better than the original? If not, it’s pretty close. And they did an awesome job recreating one of my favorite Who songs- “Real Me.”

9. Pearl Jam dipped into "Quadrophenia," overdoing it a bit with a version of "Love Reign O'er Me" that didn't need the gratuitous strings but did feature a spot-on vocal performance by Eddie Vedder, who has often cited the thematic record as a major influence. Far better was an explosive version of "The Real Me," capped off by Mike McCready tossing his guitar, the head of which broke when it hit the ground. That was a lot more homage than the Lips' drum-tumbling finale.

10.Pearl Jam. No secret Eddie Vedder’s been a big Who fan for years. And this was a fitting tribute. He tore up “Love, Reign O’er Me”, which is big praise coming from me since the Quadrophenia tour was the first time I ever saw the Who live and I have fond, fond memories of Rog in his wifebeater and tight jeans belting out that song. They also did “The Real Me” which was always a vehicle for Entwistle’s amazing bass riffs, and I have to give it up to them again. Pearl Jam emerges as the star of the Who tribute bands.

It's cool realizing that this show may have introduced (in some cases reintroduced) Pearl Jam to a lot of people who'd never listen to them otherwise.
