Boston newbie - Hotels? Attractions?

Just starting the process of booking transportation and a hotel for Boston. Any suggestions as to which area to stay in. The "financial district", Boston Common area, or closer to Fenway.

I will be staying a couple of days after to explore your fine city ( and hopefully see Boston II), so I hope to be near some of the major attractions I must see. Again, for a Boston newbie what are the highlights?

Any suggestions would be appreciated

thanks

    Personally I think the financial district would be your best bet for a hotel. We got the Omni Parker House for 110/night for May 17-19 through Priceline which is very good for a 4 star hotel in that area at that time of the year, but if you went a star or two down you should be fine (although I don't think that area has anything below 3 stars). We got the same hotel for 79/night on March 6 for the Muse show and it was less than a 15 minute walk to the Garden. The area is very safe and there are a lot of stores/restuarants around there although most don't stay open very late. As for attractions I'm sure you already know Boston is a historical area with a lot of tours, historic sites, museums, etc. so I'd recommend just googling Boston and you'll find a ton of sites with great info about the area. The Museum of Science, the Aquarium, Fanuiel Hall, Quincy Market...too much to mention.

    Have a great trip! :)

    Tangerine mentioned most of them, but also check out the public gardens. It's beautiful, especially in May.

    Hope you enjoy our fine city.

    Take a "duck tour".. it may seem touristy but even I was impresssed..

    and I live here!

    You see alot of Boston in a very little time span and even drive into the water (Chalres river) at one point..

    (its an amphibious vehicle)

    Here is a start.....

    * Have dinner in the North end, lots of places with great Italian cuisine

    * Take a walk through Boston Commons and then across the road to the Public gardens, spring time is awesome there in the oldest city park in the country

    * Get drunk in anyone of the landsdowns street ~ Kenmore Square dives....

    * Have a beer at an epic sports bar "The Fours" across from TD garden

    * Walk down Newbury Street and check out the shops, just look... no one here can afford to actually shop there.

    * Check out the incredible Boston Public Library & Copley Square !

    * Go for a run along the Charles River

    * Fresh Harpoon on draft and raw oysters at the Ye Old Oyster House

    * Go see Old Ironsides

    * Museum of Fine Arts

    * Get a $15 cotton candy and buy some postcards at Fanueil hall Market place

    * Enjoy a bagle and coffee in Harvard Square while you are doing some world class people watching

    I did the Freedom Trail again after many years, last summer. If you have the slightest interest in history it well worth while. Leaves from the common.

    Take the Red Line into Cambridge and get off at Central Sq. . Walk to Harvard Sq. and then take the T to Davis Square. In Boston proper you can pretty much walk most of the city

    And a city that's as frustrating as Boston, that is rare!

    I know the Sox are out of town, does anyone know if you can get tours of Fenway?

    also, any Italian restaurant recomendations? I've heard there is great Italian eateries in Boston. Yum
    Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of
    arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to
    slide in sideways, BBQ sandwich in one hand, cold beer in the other,
    body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "Woo Hoo what a
    ride"!

  • I think Fenway has tours when the Red Sox are out of town. One week from tonight it begins!

    Tours of Fenway are easy and fun. You will see the history, beauty, and all the reasons they should have built a new park
  • For anyone that wants to combine exercise and historical education, you can walk the bunker hill monument and get a great view of the city from the top.
