You may not of heard of these guys like I had not, but you've almost certainly heard their song 'How you like me now?" on those Kia commercials. After I looked it up to see who did the song I downloaded their "The House That Dirt Built" album and it is some bad ass stuff....very James Brown-ish at times. Cool stuff I says.

Anybody listen to them?

  • Wow! Just got "The House That Dirt Built"... baddasss! Sort of like fusing James Brown and The Black Keys. They're doing a US tour over the next couple months with Sharon Jones and the Dap KIngs. After seeing the Letterman performance and hearing the album, I'm definitely checking them out live!

They're fantastic. If you like, check out King Kahn and the Shrines (touring now too) and Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears...

How ya like me now? is definitely kick-ass but I havent had the chance to check out their album. I saw them perform that song on letterman a while back and dave actually asked for an encore so they played the whole song over again. Was pretty cool.

just got their album and am listening to it right now. love it. VERY james brown-y. check out their letterman performance. first and only time (i think) letterman has ever asked a band to perform an encore.
Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.

Friend of mine was telling me last night that she was sitting with her two-year-old nephew when the commercial came on and he said "There's Gabba Gabba"....she said What?....GABBA GABBA!!
Apparently the big red thing in the commercial is from Yo Gabba Gabba or something.....had been wondering what in the hell it was

We were speculating that it was some kind of obscene figure. Kind of like those Teletubbies a few years back. Creepy and vaguely disturbing.

Listened to all of "The House That Dirt Built" on the commute this morning. WOW what a great record. Now I'll have explore the other suggestions in this thread. This record just blew me away.

Good news! They're playing the House of Blues in Boston on 5/27! So PJ on the 17th, then The Heavy on the 27th. It's shaping up to be a very, very nice couple of weeks...
