Want to make MSG shake again? It CAN be done intentionally.

If you want to make the MSG REALLY bounce... there's kind of a frequency of jumping that does it.

The time I remember the arena bouncing the most was during a No Doubt performance in 96 or so, during the song spider webs. And obviously the arena was shaking during Do The Evolution back in '03.

If you compare Spider Webs to Do The Evolution, you'll notice two things in common. They both have the exact same tempo, and they are both "energetic" songs that make people want to jump.

If you jump up and down right now by yourself, it will probably be a the exact same tempo as DTE.

So... what I'm getting at is if we plan in advance to jump during songs with the same tempo as DTE, making the house shake during other songs is very likely.

Feel free to post below other PJ songs with the same energy and tempo as DTE, and maybe we can make a night of it!

:D

During night 2 at MSG in 08 we had the floor shaking for corduroy and down. So those could probably be some sure bets. Also I wasn't on the floor for night 1, but in the bootlegs Ed dares the crowd to get the floor shaking at the start of corduroy, and then when it starts shaking before he gets to the lyrics you hear him go "ohhhh... Shit!"

In the video in 2003 you can see Ed's genuine concern during DTE as he looks at the lights above (hoping they're not about to crash) looks as Matt (who give him an IDK? look) and then he seems to almost be a little calmer on that song. I'm sure they were wondering if there's an earthquake happening or if the lighting and sound are about to collapse.

Great energy... but try jumping right now, then start singing the song.

It's unfortunately way too fast to work on that one.

I think the bouncing has to do with two things:

    1) A song that naturally people po-go to (and not just light po-going)

    2) I think there's a resonant frequency in the venue when people jump at the exact same timing as DTE and Spiderwebs. Just like the Tacoma Bridge that broke apart from just wind, because the wind was at it's resonant frequency for wobbling.

    Here's kinda what I mean:

at the Green Day show there last summer, I was on the floor, in the back sections that are elevated on metal platforms. There where moments when I seriously thought that the platform was going to collapse.
  • Was at U2 in MSG during the Elevation tour......was actually behind the stage and it felt like the place was on the collapse (and we were on stone, not platforms) during "I Will Follow"....awesome but momentarily frightening moment!

I was on that platform in 2008 at the back of the floor. I felt just a little bounce, but was hard to tell if it was the platform. Anything movable (like a riser) is likely to bounce with just 10 people jumping.

That No Doubt show back in the 90's I was in my office backstage which is bunch of concrete rooms, and that was my first show in the venue. The whole venue does this, or at least the 5th floor, which is the stage level. We had a small tv on a milk crate, and that was rocking enough that I took it off to make sure it didn't crash.

The venue seriously bounces. ...though I do hope nothing bad ever happens from the bouncing. :?
