This sucks because the IRS is not even approachable....and we thought insurance companies are a pain in the ass to deal with now we will have to deal with the IRS other than for our taxes but for our Health.....

Well, it was only a matter of time before those evil scary IRS agents were invoked by right wingers over healthcare. It's not like they haven't done anything of the sort.

Why is the IRS so scary? I have been paying taxes since 1971 and have never had a problem with them.
I am truthful about my income and report what I make and pay my share of taxes... I have no reason to fear them.
Now, if you are a liar and a cheat... and lie about your income... then, yeah, you should be scared of them.

Yeah. I have heard people against Health Care Reform say that if you don't pay for the coverage, you will be rounded up and tossed in jail. And they were serious.
The SAME people that didn't give a shit about warrantless wiretap.

I don't fear IRS yet....I just don't like to deal with them.....my God you have to hold longer than 20 min. to even talk to someone, I don't lie or cheat...... There are more reasons to have to deal with the IRS than just being in trouble....

So... you have never had any bad dealings with the IRS, other than being put on hold for 20 minutes.
You are honest... truthful on you 1040 Form. They are not coming to get you because there are people out there who lie and cheat... or try to do some crazy shit like that guy who flew his plane into their office. He and his friends tried to claim themselves as a religion to gain the same tax exempt status as the Catholic Church. He was fucking with them and they weren't buying it.
    ...
And to ease your mind... I HAVE had a dealing with the IRS:
I took out money from my salaried savings plan at work for a down payment on my house. I moved it to my savings account of an interim period before escrow.
The sudden rise and fall in my bank account was reported, as it should be, to the IRS. They sent me a letter stating that they were conducting an investigation because the money did not appear anywhere on my 1040.
I wrote back and explained that the savings was taxed, prior to being entered in my account. I told them to contact me to set up a visit. They did... I had my employer draft a letter stating the fact that the amounts were pre-taxed and provided the forms needed. I brought in the 1099-Int form from my bank as well as the escrow documents. Less than 10 minutes and the investigation was closed.
See... not scary unless you are a criminal.

    Nine months?
If you have the proper documents, it's 10 minutes. If you lost your 1099 forms, you can call the bank or financial institution to get copies. if it is back 1040s... they have them on record and can supply you with them.
Nine months... sounds like they are asking for something... that you are not providing.
    ...
Like i said, I gave them my work phone number and told them to call me to set up an apppointment. It cost me 32 cents for the stamp.

This is exactly why I am dealing with them....And how ironic that the company that is scamming people just happened to be hired by the IRS to collect back taxes......yes the IRS has hired collection agencies to collect back taxes now....My case has nothing to do with any mistake or wrong doing by me....There are investigators investigating this on the federal level now...but that took about 4 days and 12 hours to get that going....there just a HUGE HASSLE !!!! It has nothing to do with anything they want from me....it is misinformation a company sent in about me and others saying they forgave a debt...which is concidered earned income....I have never dealt with this company in my life....they do this so that they can use the forgiven debt as a tax write off.....and obviously the company does not have to have proof of this forgiven debt or else the IRS would not be hassling me........

Listen our nation is very dim and very partisan, but what does the IRS seriously have to do with this? It's an afterthought about nothing. This is like saying you hate and fear the police much more after a day later passing a law they had to enforce. Seems pretty nonsensical and pulling at straws.

"... yes the IRS has hired collection agencies to collect back taxes now."
And... there you have it. Back Taxes. You owe back taxes.
I don't know specifics... if you filed the 1040s or H&R Block or your neighbor did. The person who prepared your 1040 and signed the return(s) along with yourself, need to provide the supporting documentation required to support your 1040 and prove that you paid those taxes. If you can provide this documentation, the IRS will close the case. If you cannot provide the documented proof... you are responsible for the taxes, penalties and interests.
You cannot blame the IRS for your incorrect 1040 filing... even if someone else prepared your tax return. The person who prepared the form and the person who signed the form (you) are responsible. The IRS does not immediately turn over to collection companies. They do give you the opportunity to argue you case with one of their agents to a resolution. My case was resolved on my lunch break.
If the problem is with the collection agency... that is a private sector company. The IRS can go after them if you can provide documented proof of your payment to them. If you were scammed by this (fraudulant) company or persons... you need to get the police fraud investigation on their asses.
I have found that if you send a letter via certified mail to the local tax board, requesting they contact you... they will. Just be sure to include as much information as possible regarding the case (case number, copies of notices sent by the IRS, etc... ) they will contact you.
You may also want to seek the advice of a tax attorney.

Not me. The IRS is the Internal Revenue Service. I would expect the IRS to enforce cases dealing with internal revenues... just as I would expect the FBI to come after me if I commit a capital offense.
    ...
And if George W. Bush passed a Health Care Reform bill that did not allow insurance companies to drop me because my treatment wasn't profitable to their bottom line... I would applaude him. I'd still be pissed off about Iraq, the neglect of Afghanistan, the mess he made of FEMA and his failure to regulate the financial industry... but, I'd say passing a Health Care reform bill was a good thing.

I don't know if I lie or cheat the IRS because I don't understand the tax laws.

Of course, if I am cheating, I'm doing a piss poor job of it considering I have to write them a check for $4K in a couple of weeks.

Question - what aspect of health CARE was actually reformed?

I had to laugh...here in Canada a lot of our newscast lead off the news the day after the vote "now that America has health care" then went into the story about the vote, almost made it sound like you had no health care at all. Really, when it seems it will benefit the uninsured and make sure people don't get denied coverage or cut off. Sounds like a lot of unknowns still exist.

No... you KNOW when you lie and cheat. It's when you place all of these charitable donations you supposedly made during the year and bump the numbers up to lower your taxable income. You KNOW how much you pay out... and if you don't know, you should. Or you work for wages paid, under the table, and do not report them... clearly, cheating.
The 1040 is fairly easy... here's what I made... here's my investments... here's what I can legally write off... here's what I have overpaid or owe. And Turbo Tax makes it even easier.
    ...
Now... if you own a business... that's different. You need to hire an tax accountant if you don't know the tax laws.

I don't know if I lie or cheat the IRS because I don't understand the tax laws.

Of course, if I am cheating, I'm doing a piss poor job of it considering I have to write them a check for $4K in a couple of weeks.

Question - what aspect of health CARE was actually reformed?

No... you KNOW when you lie and cheat.

No - I would know if I were doing those things. I guess what I'm saying is there are likely deductions out there that I could take, but have no clue about them. Or, there might be deductions I do try and take that I really am not eligible for just because the wording and worksheets are over complicated. My point was more about how crazy our tax laws are rather than whether I was cheating or not.

If you can't tell, I'm all for a consumption tax to replace income tax.
