moe.down 11 venue change

After a successful and enjoyable decade in Turin, moe.down opts for a change of scenery: Gelston Castle Estate in Mohawk, NY. Or perhaps we should say...moe.hawk?
First Roosevelt, then Rostropovich. Now moe. will bring crowds over Labor Day weekend to the 330-acre Central New York site, which boasts breath-taking views of the Mohawk Valley and an impressive history. Majestic ruins of the 1833 castle still stand, along with the 8,300 square foot mansion built by cellist and humanitarian Mstislav "Maestro" Rostropovich, which now operates on windpower. Often called "Nature's Palace", the estate was once the place where the Nation's most historic environmental advocate, President Theodore Roosevelt, spent his childhood summers, and is now the home of Green Leadership Institute. It is 20 minutes from Utica, NY.

As moe. fans know, the moe.down festival is like, as Al Schnier once described, 'a big family picnic'. The band members revel in surrounding themselves with friends, family and great music and pride themselves on giving their fans a memorable and enjoyable festival experience. Thousands travel each Labor Day weekend to gather for this down-home pilgrimage, and for many, plans for the next moe.down begin during the journey home from the last one.
With a new festival site comes new details. moe. and the organization realize that fans are eager for information, and will provide travel, accommodation and other important info soon. The festival will continue its tradition of hosting ample vending, a Kids' tent and various charitable causes, as well as presenting an unprecedented lineup of talented artists whose music span a wide variety of genres. We hope to see you all up in moe.hawk for moe.down!
A limited amount of $90 Early Bird tickets will go on sale 4/1.

Anybody else heading up to snow.down?
never been there, but checked out the link. looks pretty fly. and the good news is it's actually closer to home for me. so instead of it being an hour and a half away, it'll only be about 45 minutes to an hour away. looking forward to it. gonna get my early bird ticket as soon as possible. i'll miss turin, they had a great 10 year run there. but i think with the change of scenery, it's going to make this years down even better. can't wait to see the lineup.
i'm not going to snoe.down, my schedule just won't allow it.
ya, only about a 3 hour drive for me now which is good. Pretty bummed I'm not sure if I can make it this year, but hopefully everything works out and I can go. I was a big fan of the new stage setup last year, hope they keep it like that (not under the tent anymore)
can't wait to rock out in rutland/killington this weekend, i'll be sure to be back with a full review.
last year was actually the first moe.down that i've missed. i went to outsidelands fest in sf the weekend before. i could have still gone, i had enough loot...but i'm just getting too old to be doing two festivals two weekends in a row.
have fun this weekend and yeah, make sure you post about how it went.
i think last year has been my favorite yet (been 5 out of the last 7 years). weather was perfect, and moe. was the best I've heard them play in a while. Could have used a couple better supporting bands, but the seapods were a nice treat. No haha suprise last year though.
I don't think I could ever handle two weekends in a row, and this year it looks like phish may be back in limestone aug. 27-29th, so that's gonna be a tough call (although I like moe.down better than any phish festival)
opium>32 things was the heat
i'll have to go to their dl section and purchase the sets. man, i don't think i've heard opium in years.
TONS of cops on all roads around the venue.
As for spartan areana, I liked it. The lights looked really good in the hockey rink. Having the glass still up on the boards was alittle strange, but whatever. Friday was a good amount of people, sat. was alittle oversold (IMO). If you were under 21, it would have been terrible. You had to stay way in the back of the floor by the soundboard, and you couldn't even get into the lodge sets.
Setlist wise, it was ok. Would have liked to see them mix it up more, but I've seen and heard much worse shows. the segue between STF>Cissy strut>STF was good, as was the road>lazerus>road
i always love hearing lazerus. great song.
they've also got 2 dates in june in the saranac brewery parking lot in utica, ny. yep, i'll be at those shows.
moe.down has confirmed its first round of acts. In addition to multiple sets of moe., the event’s lineup will feature The Black Keys, Built to Spill, Tortoise, Ryan Montbleau Band and The Brew, among others. moe.down will take place September 3-5 in Mohawk, NY at Gelston Castle Estate. This is the first time the event has been held outside Turin, NY. A limited number of Early Bird Tickets are on sale now through moe.ticketing for $90, until the allotment sells out or June 1st when the second tier limited allotment of $110 kicks in. Additional acts will be announced in the coming weeks.
lol, you beat me to it. i just saw today that they announced the first round of bands. i've heard a lot of talk about the black keys, but i don't think i've heard anything by them. i'll have to look for them on youtube. saw built to spill at outsidelands last summer, they were damn good. looking forward to seeing them again.
we'll have to meet up for a beer sometime that weekend, I ordered my tickets a few weeks ago.
I know nothing about the black keys, but their new cd is streaming on npr....i was not a fan of it at all when I listened to it
sounds good to me, beer always goes down well at the moe.down. i haven't gotten my ticket yet, but i'm hoping to before the middle of june.
yeah, i found some black keys on youtube. only listened to a couple songs. nothing earth moving, but it was ok. maybe after a couple hits from a bowl they'll sound better.
actually got to meet mike a few years ago when he played at the down...it was pretty funny, he was walking out from the side area of the stage and into the crowd on saturday afternoon. i was standing right there and when he was walking by me i said to him "hey, you're mike gordon, aren't you?" he said yeah, i shook his hand and just said "really looking forward to hearing your set tonight, and thanks for the great music from you, trey, page, and jon." this was actually during the hiatus and if i remember correctly, jon was there with another band and so was page....all that was missing was trey.......man, it was going around all weekend that trey was going to make an appearance and they were going to play a bit together.....never happened, though.
anyway, here's the other acts that have been announced...other than gordon, that is. should be one more wave of bands to be announced....looking pretty good so far. looking forward to jakob dylan. macpodz are pretty good, too.
SECOND ROUND OF ARTISTS ANNOUNCED FOR MOE.DOWN 11
Jakob Dylan, Punch Brothers, Mike Gordon, The Macpodz and Monkey Wrench will join forces with moe. over Labor Day weekend in Mohawk, NY for the 11th annual moe.down. Previously announced acts include The Black Keys, Built to Spill, Tortoise, Ryan Montbleau Band and The Brew. More exciting announcements to come, so stay tuned!
This year, moe.down has a new home at Gelston Castle Estate. As in the past, the price of admission includes camping. A limited number of Early Bird Tickets are on sale now through moe.ticketing for $90, until the allotment sells out or June 1st when the second tier limited allotment of $110 kicks in. This 3 day event has become known for its laid back vibe and great music, as well as its intimate and scenic setting. With only 2 stages, bands never overlap and patrons never miss a beat!
moe.down has a history of bringing a diverse collection of artists to the festival over the 10 year history. Bands that have played in the past include The Flaming Lips, Perry Farrell's Satellite Party, Cake, The Roots, Method Man and Redman, The Wailers, Ani Difranco, Amos Lee, Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood, Yonder Mountain String Band, The Avett Brothers and more.

what are you but my reflection? who am i to judge or strike you down?
"I will promise you this, that if we have not gotten our troops out by the time I am president, it is the first thing I will do. I will get our troops home. We will bring an end to this war. You can take that to the bank." - Barack Obama
when you told me 'if you can't beat 'em, join 'em'
i was thinkin 'death before dishonor'
