Start dropping tickets for the MSG shows?
A Week before? 2 Weeks? Days before?
I have no experience with these ticket drops, anyone else know about these?

Not exactly what you mean by ticket "drops" but typically the promoter will release tickets the morning of the show. After load-in is complete, they can assess certain seats they had 'killed' or held for either possible sight-line obstructions, or simply b/c they may not be using all of their holds. I'd keep my eyes peeled mid-morning through early afternoon on show day.

Major drops happen on the day of show. I often used to put the tickets on sale at MSG.

On the day of a show, at 8am the trucks load-in the lights, sound, rigging, etc. At about 1pm or so the lights and sound are "flown". There are a number of sections near the stage that are not put on sale until the lights and sound are in-place. Once in place the Tour, Promoter and Venue production managers walk in those sections held from sale to see if the seats have a good view, or completely obstructed. Then I would bring the list of seats down to the box office to dump seats into the system.

Seats that are bad are "tech kills" and never sold.

Seats that are good are "tech releases" and dumped into the system probably sometime after 12 noon.

But what about when they drop good floor seats. How and when does that happen?

I was hoping it would be sooner than "day of" so I could make a hotel reservation. Why is going to this show proving to be so difficult?!

no way to tell exactly when
but some of those are seats TM holds for VIPS, service providers and sponsors
my guess is there wont be too many available for PJ

That is something I don't know.

I don't know if you can count on floor tickets dropping at every show, like you can count on Tech Releases. Though bands are given X number of tickets per their contract, for their friends, vips, etc. If they don't need them all, they put those on sale. Often on the day of show, but if they know earlier, then perhaps then.

With the floor being probably all TC, I don't think there will be any floor to magically pop up on TM, but I could be wrong.

...and I forgot MSG also has their own house-section somewhere off the floor in like the 50's or something. If they don't need them all, they'll get put on sale too at some point, but I don't know when.
