Israel to ask US for bombs in the fight against Iran's Nuclear sites

Binyamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, will use a visit to Washington this week to press the US to release sophisticated bunker-busting bombs needed for a possible strike on Iran’s nuclear sites.

The trip comes as both sides strive to defuse the crisis provoked by Israel’s announcement during a visit by Vice-President Joe Biden this month of the building of 1,600 houses in east Jerusalem.

Ban Ki-moon, the United Nations secretary-general, said in Ramallah yesterday: “Let us be clear: all settlement activity is illegal anywhere in occupied territory, and this must stop.”

    most "aggressive" country in the world and we support them and arm them to the teeth yet we wonder why the world hates us. we deserve everything we get

    +1....and I bet you we'll give Israel those bunker busting bombs mainly due to the fact we're tied up in two wars at the moment.

    Israel already has these bombs. Even though Bush would not support an Israeli strike against Iran, the Bush administration armed Israel with bunker busting bombs.

    The US announced two weeks ago that it would sell Israel 1,000 bunker-busting bombs. The move was interpreted by some analysts as a consolation prize for Israel after Bush told Olmert of his opposition to an attack on Iran. But it could also enhance Israel's attack options in case the next US president revives the military option.

    The guided bomb unit-39 (GBU-39) has a penetration capacity equivalent to a one-tonne bomb. Israel already has some bunker-busters.
