Ranking past Garden shows?

After finally securing tickets to both Garden shows I plugged in Live At The Garden and it got me thinking. They've played the Garden 6 times, which is the best? I've been to none of the past shows so I'm sure others would have more valid points as to where these shows stand. Based on reviews, setlists and what I've heard and seen with my own eyes here's how they rank...

1. 09/11/98 - Just an amazing show from everything I've heard
2. 07/08/03 - Obviously a popular show but also a damn solid one
3. 07/09/03 - Some consider it better than the previous night
4. 06/24/08 - Hard To Imagine opens another great Garden show
5. 06/25/08 - Solid show although not really a standout from the boot or setlist
6. 09/10/98 - Don't know a great deal about this show but I'm sure it was at least above average
06/22/95, 11/04/95, 11/15/97, 07/16/98, 10/30/99, 10/30/00, 10/31/00, 10/20/01, 10/21/01, 12/08/02, 06/01/03, 06/06/03, 10/25/03, 10/26/03, 09/28/04, 03/18/05, 09/01/05, 07/15/06, 07/16/06, 07/18/06, 07/22/06, 07/23/06, 10/21/06, 10/22/06, 08/28/09, 09/21/09, 09/22/09, 05/20/10, 05/21/10, 10/24/10, 11/26/13, 12/06/13, 06/28/14, 10/26/14, 07/10/18, 08/10/18, 10/02/21,

6/25/08 was an amazing show... you can't rely on reviews or setlists...

    I was at the 2 in 2003 and 2 in 2008, I'd rank them:

    1) 07/08/03 - by the time YL was playing my non-pj fan friend was dancing on her seat; ben harper did a good job describing the incredible emotion of the night in the Lance Mercer book.
    3. 07/09/03 - Great Show but the night before impossible to top
    4. 06/25/08 - Night Two was more powerful/more energetic crowd than night one
    5. 06/24/08 0- Great show by any other band's standard. that you could rank this fourth on any list is a tribute to the talents of this amazing live band.

before PJ started releasing every show it was common knowledge that 9-11-98 was a very special show.

I was lucky enough to be at both 03 shows, and I think the second night -7/9 was better. Not able to comment on any of the others, but of the two I've seen I clearly choose 7/9.

98 when Eddie climbed the mic wire into the rafters was a great show. Both 2003 shows were great DTE rocked the stage scared the ban and June 25 08 was a great awesome DTE shook the stage again.

Night 2 from 03 is my favourite with the Johnny Ramone answerphone message and Know You Rights makes any setlist look good. Also Crazy Mary as opener + EVACUATION! DEEP, PRESENT TENSE and a blistering Go!! 98 was absolutely phenomenal to be fair too and night 1, 08 :D
Like a book among the many on a shelf...

    Dublin 02 Arena - 22/6/10. Belfast Odyssey Arena - 23/6/10. London Hyde Park - 25/6/10. Berlin Wuhlheide - 30/6/10.
    Manchester MEN - 20/06/12. Manchester MEN - 21/06/12

i was at all 6 ( and will be at the next two)

say what you will about 9-10-98, but it was one of the highlights of my life...first time seeing PJ after worshipping them for over 6 years....had 10 club seats, the usher was walking us towards the stage...he kept going, and going, and going.....7th row center...UNREAL to have your heros right there, as close up as a cover band in a bar....they may have fudged songs that night and played a weak encore, it didn't matter

still get chills thinking about it

had crappy seats the following night...may have been a better show, but its all about the seats

7-8-03 was better than the next night (which was also great)...and speaking as someone who was there, the Live at the Garden DVD does not capture how great that show was live and in person!!! that kind of enegy can't be captured by video cameras!!

    both 08 shows were excellent

Night 2 in 08' was sick. Being a huge Ranger fan and going to many great games especially in 94, I have never felt the Garden shake like it did that night in 08'. You could feel the floor pulse up and down.

Listening to 2008 again - I think night two was better than 2008 night one. great, powerful versions of the songs, crowd was passionate and Black Diamond was a blast.

    AND THE REST
Unfortunately that's the only 1 I've missed  . So for me my favorite show was 7/8/03. The lights were out all evening because of the dvd taping. Plus you get Crown of Thorns & Breath back to back 8-) . Add my concert enhancing special guacamole dip at my pre-party that put a smile on your face for hours & hours.:mrgreen::mrgreen:
So, What you Giving ?........ (Thanks Speedy, Alesek, & Arq+friends)

I suggest you step out on your Porch.
Run away my son. See it all. Oh, See the World!
  • yeah the 9/11/98 was the only one I missed. I have to admit, and it pains me to say it, but the night before was quite awful. The sound problems, the never ending Ken Starr speech. That kind of sucked.
  • does anybody have a boot of 9/10/98, interested in revisiting it? Thanks.

    BTW..
There is a Boston GARDEN too!

Never been to an MSG show...
Let's face it , NYC is one of the bands favorite places to perfrom.. Most all of these shows are true gems..

The boots seem to support 9/11/98 as one of the All-timers with "Release" opener (One of the best vocals for this song ever IMO), Mikey was ON FIRE with every solo, Immortality! WOW!, "Breath campaign" pays off..and yes, Ed climbing his own Microphone wire above the stage..

    How does one top that?

In fact, it has my vote for the next vault release..
