I love James Taylor and his music. My parents brought me up on his music, they would always play it at dinner every night. I never hear any talk about him on here but I think his music is the shit. Great stuff to play on a summer night while sitting on the front porch drinking some beer. I think October Road is my favorite album by James. Anyone else a fan or like to discuss?

been a fan of JT since catching that simpsons episode with homer in space where he sings to them, amazing stuff. I really like the whole acoustic brand of music he does. Whats even better i managed to pick up 3 of his albums on vinyl from record store the other day for $15 all up all in perfect condition...best $15 ever spent imo! :)

Fire and Rain reminds me of my grandfather. JT was one of his favorite. Same with most of the stuff off the album Rumors by Fleetwood Mac. It's funny how one song can mean so many things to so many people.

That sounds like a great purchase to me!! I was lucky enough that my parents kept their JT records in good shape and I have now inherited them

I'm mostly familiar with his hits, but I do like his more recent stuff like October Road and Hourglass. He has a unique way of playing the guitar; always alternating between strumming and picking. His songs may be quite easy to sing, but really hard to master.

We have been making it a yearly tradition to make the trek out to Tanglewood to see JT. He is fantastic and so much fun. Tanglewood is a summer camp for gifted young musicians and he is a huge supporter of their work, so he plays every summer. Bangs out all the hits.

I was at tanglewood for one of his shows last year. Very cool venue but the crowd is so damn upsetting to see. People sit through the enitre show and noone sings along. I was also upset that Sheryl Crow got to play 6 of her songs during James' set. Overall I had a great time though!!

Could always start with Greatest Hits Volume 1 too. I prefer live JT over album tho.

Yeah, though it's not well-known, it's definitely up there with his greatest hits. I love Bruce Springsteen's darker 12-string version.

I enjoyed that whole MusiCares Honors James Taylor. Would have been cool if Eddie was there.

He hasn't played it in the last 4 years that I've seen him. I've always wanted it every year and it's never come.

yeah i could have done with a little less sheryl crow. namely, zero. he was very gracious about signing autographs for an extended amount of time afterwards (it was POURING at the end of the show the night we went, so everyone had time to kill anyway until the rain let up). they also showed this old school movie he was in called "two lane blacktop", with one of the wilson brothers. how effortlessly cool is that dude? such a beautiful voice (david crosby said that on a good day, taylor "sings like god"), seems like such a centered, loving person (i can forgive him for being on his third wife), and very gracious with his fans. i'd imagine more than a few gals back in his day fell fast and hard for that smooth crooner, crushed velvet suits, flowing locks and all.

He played at the arena I work at a couple of years ago... during his "intermission", he sat on the front edge of the stage and signed autographs and talked to people the entire time. He finally got up, and went backstage for maybe long enough to go to the bathroom, and was back on stage for the second set. Really cool to watch...

He does that at every show! He is such a cool, down to earth guy.
